(Review) KC Wearables, Air Shows and Stunt Planes

Last Friday we went to Atlantic City’s Air Show but more on that later. While we were there we had the opportunity to get and review a stunt airplane from Kid Constructions.

You know those cool cardboard draw and build castles, rockets, and other fun things you saw advertised last Christmas? Yeah, something like that. Except this was cooler – it was (is) a stunt plane with a harness kids put over their shoulders and get to play pilot. My kids LOVE it – all 3, from 4 to 9.

My 7 year old has kind of claimed it as his since he turned 7 that day and all things special were obviously meant for him on this glorious of days.  Let me start off by saying that the concept of Kid’s Construction stunt planes being given away at an Air Show was the BEST idea EVER. Really, brilliant strategy.

My “mom” strategy of actually making it on the beach would have been fine if I hadn’t chosen to start when the beach was at it’s busiest. Yeah, brilliant, Heather.

The kids loved coloring it on the beach and then they got to go have fun while I tried to assemble it. The picture directions are fairly easy as long as you start at #1. Yes, please. Start at #1. It goes much smoother. Don’t LOOK at #2 until #1 is accomplished.  Here is where there is one little bitty problem. There isn’t a pre-bend in the cardboard when you are folding and tucking tabs. (I know it would be much easier to see but the thing is already together. Just keep this tip in mind WHEN you buy one. Really, you should get one because this is one of the best products I have seen in a while that you can get to stir your kid’s creativity, craftiness, and imagination all at the same time.)

After I figured out the extra bend the air craft went together like a dream. I looked pretty amazing assembling A WHOLE AIRPLANE ON THE BEACH. Ha!
Once it was together, the predicament was, “Who gets to try it first?” I went with the birthday boy. We had a great photo – op in my opinion. I will, of course, show that off in a minute. People stopped a few times and asked about it. They thought it was pretty cool.  Then, on the boardwalk, my son got a few comments AND admiring glances. You know, the cool kid in orange on the boardwalk, wearing a stunt plane? That was my kid.

I was a little worried that we would get home and it would be forgotten but they have played with it a little bit every day so far (4 days of play isn’t too bad for the record.) I personally would choose to purchase it for a special birthday or holiday present but it would even be great for an every day kind of treat.

For more information you can check Kids’ Construction Wearables out online. They also are on Twitter and Facebook.

Value – at $24.95 + S&H I would much prefer to buy something like this than a video game. The stunt plane is a great activity for them to decorate and then help build, and encourages creativity and imaginative play – a favorite type of toy in my house.
