Online Family Organizer AboutOne is co-sponsoring the second annual FoodPhight 5k fundraiser benefitting the Center for Pediatric Eosinophilic Disorders at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

West Chester, PA May 18, 2012 – AboutOne (http://www.aboutone.com), the online organizer that gives customers instant access to the information they need to take care of family and home is co-sponsoring the second annual FoodPhight 5K race benefiting the Center for Pediatric Eosinophilic Disorders at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Held during National Eosinophilic Awareness Week, May 13 – 19, the event begins at 6pm on Friday, May 18th in West Chester on the Historic Courthouse steps at 2 North High Street.

A growing number of children and adults suffer from a chronic and complex group of autoimmune disorders described as Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders (EGID). These disorders are characterized by having above normal amounts of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in one or more specific places anywhere in the digestive system. In some cases, children are allergic to all food and survive on a liquid medical diet made up of pure amino acids. If untreated, the disease can be life threatening.

Currently, CHOP treats 1100 infants, children, and teenagers with eosinophilic disease – the largest clinical population in the world. This clinical population provides and extensive source of data for research. Local residents Steve and Suzanne Harris, whose two sons have been diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, founded FoodPhight in order to raise awareness and funding for CHOP to further its research efforts.

According to CEO Joanne Lang, “FoodPhight 5K fits well with AboutOne’s philanthropic objectives, which is why we are honored to support this event. My children have all been treated at CHOP. It’s an amazing hospital and I’m proud to support it. Two of my children have food allergies, and I am thankful on a regular basis that they do not have anything more serious. The second of my four children almost died with a related illness and that is why I founded AboutOne, so that everyone would have ready access to the information they need to meet life’s challenges.”

AboutOne recently launched the beta version of its new online organizer, as well as its Windows Phone companion app, AboutOne Family Organizer. Android and iPhone apps are slated to follow. The company’s mission, making life easier for families, includes a charitable component, with special emphasis on non-profits that support women, children and heroes.

At the doctor’s office, parents can use Family Organizer to quickly access their children’s health records and answer questions about medications, vaccinations, and conditions. They can snap a scan of the health report and bill they receive and add them to AboutOne, along with links to relevant family members and other contacts, as well as notes and reminders about upcoming appointments. In an emergency, parents will have instant access, even with no cell phone service, to emergency contacts and family member health information.
