Lots of people are complaining about the ‘new’ Facebook. Having watched Mark Zuckerberg give the F8 talk, I can tell you–You ain’t seen nothin’ yet! But I’m as frustrated as anyone. I’m frustrated because I’m seeing stuff I don’t need to see, and not seeing stuff I want to see. And as most bloggers will tell you, we saw an instant decrease in traffic from Facebook to our blogs.
I actually started this post in mid-October but never got around to finishing it. Then, this weekend, I got two emails from readers. They both said that they liked my site and were following it on Facebook, but I wasn’t showing up.
First, check out Good Deal Mama’s post (with photos) on how to get your feed looking like it used to. That should help some, but it’s only one step. If you want to make sure that people and/or pages stay in your feed, you have to interact with them. It can be as simple as “liking” something they post once in a while or leaving a comment, or sharing what they have posted (using the Facebook share feature, of course). If you have people and or pages, and you never interact with them, Facebook bots assume you are not interested and drop them from your feed.
Now, on to sorting the sites you follow so that you can easily access them.
I’d like to thank Heather at Family Friendly Frugality for this next tip. Look at your main Facebook feed–particularly the sidebar on the left. Mine looks like this:
I’m sorry if it’s very small, and yes, I belong to an obscene amount of groups. But look at the bottom-where it says Lists. Just today I learned from Heather how to create a new list. Just click “lists” then create. It then gives you the option to name it, and pick people or pages. I chose pages, and then chose all the deal blogs I want in that list.
Now when I click that Deals list, I see all the recent deals posted by my favorite blogs. So, of course add Smart Spending Spot and all your favorite blogs so that you don’t miss a deal!
If you need a photo tutorial of this, check out Penny Pinchin Mom’s post about it or the one from Crunchy Frugalista. And Andrea, a fellow Savings.com DealPro, has done a screencast on how to change your Facebook.
Thanks for the tips ladies!
And of course, to never miss a deal, sign up for the Smart Spending Spot email. I only send out 1-2 per week, I promise!
So glad to help Lisa!
LOVE facebook lists!
