Dollar General, new coupon policy

I really don’t want to blame all these changes on one tv show……..I find it hard to believe that one cable TV show wields that much power over America’s retailers. But then again, when you broadcast a show that spells out exactly how to misuse coupons, maybe it is why.

Dollar General is the newest store on the list to tighten the reins. Read the new policy here.

Some of the highlights, or should I call them lowlights?

No more overage. Well that sucks.

No more coupons for “free” items, regardless of source. This means, that even if they carry the $1 packs of Carefree/Stayfree and you have the coupon that says “free” on it, published by the manufacturer……..it’s a no-go. I also bet that if we find $1 items and match them with valid $1 coupons, they’ll be turned down.

If they don’t scan, or if the cashier can’t get a code to enter in the register, you’re SOL.

Well, you can read the rest. This will mean fewer trips to DG for me, for sure.

I really, really am beginning to loathe that TV show. I have yet to see one thing positive come out of it, except ratings for a network.

now I can understand if it computer printed but if its a manufacturer coupon I really don’t see how they can turn it down ,I will be calling some companies about this b/c I think that if they carry a product and the manufacturer send a coupon it has to be excepted in the store where the product is I am thinking that that is a part of the deal on carrying it .BUT I will be checking farther .

    • My guess is that they are really targeting those that have multiples. EC highlights couponers buying hundreds of the same coupon online, so you could get hundreds of a “free” coupon and they want to stop that. It’s just the small time person who may only have 1 or 2 of those, that also is going to suffer.

  2. I predicted that the show was going to change a lot of things up for us, and with all the changes going on, it seems like it really is….

Sorry I’m not sure how it got sent by itself! I was saying that I totally agree, because in Humble Texas our Kroger’s store does not double or triple any coupons at all :(. Also, whenever we used to make purchases with paper/rewards card coupons it wouldn’t accept the paper because it already accepted the rewards card one. Ughrr it really stinks!!!
Thank you for letting me vent!

      Have a great day!
