I should be rich

So yeah, I’m always bragging about getting free this, free that, $0.30 for a box of cereal. With all of these savings, I should be rich, right? I wish.

Right now my savings are going to two places–balance out rising costs and my dogs. I am spending $10-$20 more per tank of gas these days and we all keep hearing reports on how the cost of groceries has increased. With coupons I have been able to keep pace with inflation and our monthly budget for these items has not changed. I just heard a report yesterday that grocery costs have increased 5%. I don’t know if I believe that, most of the price increases I’m seeing are much higher than 5%.

And my dogs. I have two giant (100 lb) geriatric dogs who are on tons of expensive medications and prescription food ($70 a bag!). So I am glad for my coupon savings or we would have some very difficult decisions to make. The way I have it figured now, it costs us about $7-$8 a day to have dogs, which is really the equivalent of a car payment. I participate in some rebate programs for both their food and some of the meds, but it’s only a small dent.

Cereal deals at Acme–better than I thought

This is how my cereal deals worked out.

Quaker oatmeal: On sale 5 for $10, must buy 5. I bought 6, so I could use 3 of my $1 off 2 coupons. Paid $8, getting $5 back in rebate. Makes final price $0.50 a box!!!! Woo hoo! Much better than the usual price of $3.50.

Kellogg’s: on sale 5 for $8, must buy 5. I bought ten. I only had 3 of the $1 off 2 coupons left. So final cost at Acme was $13, getting $10 back in rebate. Makes final prices $0.30 a box!

I had to ring up the Kellogg’s separately so that I would have a receipt for each rebate.

TIP: Just go ahead and cut off the UPC codes before you put the stuff away. I didn’t, and had to dig out all 15 boxes, cut the codes, then put away again. But I also usually do the rebates right away so I don’t forget about it. Rebate checks are a nice surprise to get in the mail.

Acme & Giant ads

First, the Acme ad runs Fri-Thurs, the Giant ad runs Sun-Sat. So any Giant deals I post won’t start until tomorrow, and I already posted the ones that started last Sunday.

ACME

Campbell’s Soups: lots of varieties are bogo or 10 for $6.50. Lots of coupons in last week’s paper to match up. Not a fantastic deal, but $0.55 for a can of soup is good. The Chunky microwave bowl soups come to 4 for $5, ok, not great. But a decent price if you pack your lunch. I get so tired of taking sandwiches.

Quaker oatmeal: Ok, this is a deal I’m sorta excited about. We love this oatmeal and lately the regular price for it has been about $3.50-$3.70 per box–ouch! So it’s 5 boxes for $10, with a $5 rebate. Add in your $1 off 2 coupons from last Sunday, and this is a fantastic deal. I wish I had more coupons.

Yoplait: on sale 10 for $4.50, must buy 10. LOTS of coupons available for this–it’s in the paper almost every week and there are almost always online printables. You should be able to get your cost down to about $0.35-$0.37 a container.

Kelloggs: Do you still have the $10 rebate form hanging around? I do! Yay! So buy 10 boxes for $16, get $10 back, making it $0.60 a box. I think I still have some Kelloggs coupons too, unless I used them all–making it even cheaper.

Barilla pasta: It’s 4 for $5 at both Giant and Acme, so with the $1 coupons, $0.25 a box!

Pillsbury: All that refrigerated stuff is on sale, and there were coupons last week.

Wild Harvest: Lots of decent prices, look for printables at Wildharvest.com.

Freschetta pizza: 33% off, not great, but ok if you need it.

Danimals: 30% off, keep checking Avenu every day to see if it pops up, combine with the $1 coupons from a few weeks ago.

Malt O Meal: four for $5, 1 printables at coupons.com or smartsource.com.

GIANT

Meat: $5 off $20 coupon on front of circular. I plan to combine this coupon with the Hatfield pork coupons I have.

Tastykakes: $2 a box, good for lunches.

Snyder’s pretzels: 2 for $5, $1 off 2 coupon a few weeks ago. Those flavored pretzels are like crack to me.

WYB 8 products, get $5 oyno: Eh, not too much included that I’m interested in. Kevin drinks the Mott’s juice and I have coupons, but not sure I want 8 bottles of it. But there are coupons out there for just about every item listed, so might be worth your while.

All in all, I’ll probably go to Acme this week for my deals.

Good deals–CVS, Giant, Acme

I got all my ads yesterday and just briefly perused them. Looks like lots of good deals at both Acme and Giant, plus free stuff at CVS and a chance to increase ECBs. I’ll do the coupon matchups tonight or tomorrow morning–stay tuned.
