Gas deal appears to be a bust

Sorry, but the Acme/Exxon deal appears to be a disappointment. Not only are there no Exxon stations around here, but what I’m hearing from other couponers is that Exxon is usually $0.10 to $0.20 higher per gallon than other stations–so there wouldn’t be any real savings. Oh well.

ETA: A reader posted a comment that the Landenberg Exxon usually has decent prices. Glad at least someone is getting to take advantage of this deal.

Acme ad-Sept 19-25

Well, my bubble is burst a little bit, but there’s still hope. I was so excited about getting a gas deal only to find there are no Exxons around here. I figure at some point I will earn a gas coupon, so I’m holding out hope that I can use it at a Mobil station. Obviously Acme is trying to get us to do all of our holiday grocery shopping at Acme, which is a smart strategy. I’ll continue to bounce between Giant and Acme depending on who is having a better week. This week’s ad is still ok, not great, just ok. Overall it does look better than Giant.

Perdue-whole chickens are bogo, I like having one or two in the freezer.

Nestle/Stouffer’s-there are items on sale and there were coupons last week. I ditched my coupons–I do not buy Nestle items, because of this.

Hamburger Helper-if you eat it, it’s $1 and there are almost always printables for this at bettycrocker.com or the other coupon printable sites.

Chef Boyardee–also a $1 and I saw coupons in Good Housekeeping that I received yesterday.

Soda-select sodas are $0.79 for 2-liters and they are brands that occasionally pop up on my Avenu savings. Keep checking yours–could be free, or good time to get some soda to have on hand for holiday guests.

Acme brand baking products-good coupons, good prices on front cover of circular.

Green Giant steamers-if you didn’t get your free ones at Giant, you can get them this week at Acme for $0.50 with coupon.

General Mills deal-spend $25, get $5 off instantly at checkout. Lots of coupons to go along with this in recent weeks.

Edy’s-on sale 3 for $10 and it is still showing up on my Avenu occasionally, would be $1.33 after Avenu savings.

Kleenex-$1, there are $1 off 3 coupons out there from recent weeks.

Stroehmann bread-$2.50 which sadly is a good price for bread these days.

A gas deal! Updated 9/18

I see gas deals posted on the coupon boards all the time and I’m always jealous. Most of the time, the grocery store has a gas station on the premises. My brother and sister in law do this regularly. Finally a grocery store has paired up with a gas station–Acme and Exxon. This runs through January 8, 2009.

Spend $50, get $0.05 off per gallon
Up to Spend $200, get $0.35 off per gallon

Starts this Friday, Sept 19. That’s all I’ve looked at in the circular-I’ll post other deals after I have a chance to peruse it. But this is big! I easily spend $100 a week on groceries, so I’ll be saving $0.15 a gallon!

ETA: Ok, I looked online and there are no Exxons around here. The only one in SCC is way down on 896 in the Landenberg area. Northern DE has quite a few. So unless this also includes Mobil, there’s not much use for it around here. You can also check online, if you don’t work around here and want to check for one near your work. Bummer. I suppose I’ll still shop Acme if the deals are better than Giant for each week, and if I get a gas coupon perhaps I can pass them along to someone who can use them, or trade them for better coupons.

Locator

I know I said no more Walmart………

But I had something to return, honest! And I had no receipt, so I had a store credit to spend. If you go to the back of the store (Kennett Walmart) where the gardening and holiday stuff usually is, they have started to put Halloween stuff out. There also is a huge aisle of all clearanced toys. Remember the Tickle Me Elmo TMXs that were going for hundreds on ebay? Ha ha, now they’re $18 on clearance. Stuff for all ages, so a good time to get some xmas shopping done for relatives or even pick up something for Toys for Tots.

Viva-the single rolls of Viva are $1, so if you have the $0.75 coupon from last week, $0.25. I used all my coupons since I had the store credit, though a better deal may come along. Last time Acme did a “Buy xx, get $xx oyno” and Viva was included.

Electrasol-I’m looking for a good place to use my $2.25 coupon, but this isn’t it. It was $3.67. I’m waiting for a store to have it for 2 for $6 or $2.99. I did hear Target has it on sale for $2.79, but I’m not running down there just for a few boxes of Electrasol.

School supplies-not clearanced yet.

Toddler clothes-most summer items marked down to $1.

Health/Beauty items–nothing great on clearance.

Kotex-if you have the $1 off one coupons that were in the paper recently, also frequently found in magazines, they have $1 packs–free! Also, $1 and $0.75 printables available at coupons.com or smartsource.com.
