If I had to shop this week……..

I love getting the Sunday paper. In the winter time I curl up on the couch with my coffee, in the summer I go out on my patio in the morning with my coffee. I love Pennsylvania summers.

This morning I had time to look over most of the ads, overall a dull week. Lots of good deals to be had, but I certainly didn’t see anything that was “must do” in terms of a great freebie or moneymaker.

If I had to buy household essentials this week, I’d go to Kmart. They are offering several catalina deals, including a get $10 when you buy $35 Procter & Gamble. I would try stacking that, if you need the stuff, with the Hanes/Tide/Downy deal inside the flyer. Purchase what you need for that deal, and add to your P&G stack to get to $35, hopefully you’d get the $10 and the $5 back. I haven’t seen any reports yet of it working that way.

Hubby is brand loyal to Right Guard. So I’m going to do the Buy $20 get $5 for that, will only cost me $10 after coupons, get $5 back. Then I plan to get $35 worth of Natural Instincts, which I am brand loyal to. Use my $5 catalina from Right Guard, coupons–hopefully pay about $10, get $10 and $5 back. If that works, will turn around and do a diapers/wipes deal with Pampers stuff. They also have a good GM cereal deal. Purchase 4 boxes for $10, get another $4 off, or $6. $1.50 a box–and if you have coupons for it, even better. Lots of GM coupons in last week’s paper. Lots of P&G coupons in this week’s paper. Put together transactions of what you need, and after coupons and the $10 catalina, should be able to do well. Cashiers often get annoyed with me because I may do 2 or 3 back to back transactions when I get in line, but oh well. If it means I can roll my catalinas and get free or cheap stuff, too bad!

For groceries, I’d go to Superfresh. As I posted last week, they have several catalina deals going. Remember, at Superfresh (but not Kmart) you only need to get to your spending threshhold using shelf prices, not sale prices.

School/office supply deals galore this week–whatever you need, you should be able to find a good price on it at any of the big stores.

CVS and Walgreen’s leave me flat this week, which makes me regret even more not getting into CVS last week for diapers and photo books.

If you go to Acme, I have read online of shoppers being able to purchase an Acme gift card with the P&G catalina. Remember, works on shelf prices.

there are always other deals

I was a little bummed last night when I realized that I had forgotten about the photobook deal at CVS. I like to do those, but didn’t have time to gather up some photos and head over there. I have to remind myself, there are always other deals. I’ve gotten lots of free photobooks in the past and I’m sure there will be more in the future.

Tip: If you don’t have time to go out and do a deal or you forget, wait until the last day or two of the sale and go. There’s a good chance they’ll have run out of photobook materials, or the size diaper you need, or the whatever-else-that-was-on-sale. Then just ask for a raincheck.

Today is a new day and a new month. Today’s coupon inserts look good and there’s a new set of printables online, use links at right. It’s a rainy/cloudy day here, I should have time to look at all the ads later and point out the good deals. For now, just going to enjoy my coffee since I’m the only one awake.

last day…..

Last day for a lot of things. Last day this blog will be auto published to my personal page. After today, if you want it to show up in your feed, you’ll have to “like” my bargains.

Last day for Walgreen’s & CVS weekly ads. Remember both had a few freebies to be had and CVS has the Pampers deal. Pampers deal apparently can be done twice, make sure you do in separate transactions.

Last day at Office Max and Staples to get 100% return on backpacks if you buy one.

Last day to do the 50% off Longwood Gardens deal I posted yesterday.

And it’s the last day of the month, so many coupons are expiring. But tomorrow’s another day with more inserts. Support your local Sunday paper and buy it!

Serves me right….

I didn’t blog yesterday, but did post on my new bargain alert facebook page about the Target toy clearance. I also said that I wanted to have the will power to stay home and not go, as I did not really need anything.

This morning I caved and went. I had to head out that way anyway, and last night I remembered about the Venus gift sets. Back in the Health and Beauty area, they have these really nice Venus gift sets–a razor, a body wash and a lotion, for $4.98. The 7/6 inserts had a $2 coupon and this weekend’s paper will probably have one too. I was hoping they would be marked down further. They weren’t, but I purchased eight anyway. I’m going to use them for teacher/therapist gifts. I think we have eight to buy for, maybe more, so cost is an issue.

But since I was in Target anyway……..might as well check out the toy clearance, right? Right. Got another basket of fake food, since the puppies have destroyed most of the first basket. All the way down to $1.24. And, Brian spotted this Yo Gabba Gabba slide guitar thing. Originally $25, now $6.24. He is being exceptionally cute and well-behaved today, so I caved and purchased it. It has now been in our possession all of about 90 minutes, and it is single-handedly the most annoying toy we own. The noises coming out of it don’t sound anything like a guitar or a piano, and the stupid phrases from the characters, oh boy. So that’s what I get, serves me right, should have stayed away. I went to the store in Concordville and the toys are pretty wiped out. I also read that Brandywine was already picked over too.

On the way home, popped into the Kennett Walmart again to look for two freebies. In case you’ve read about them on other sites–the Scrubbing Bubbles and the Hydro. The Scrubbing Bubbles should have produced a $0.50 overage if it rang at 4.50 and you had the $5 coupon. I had about 20 of them, so planned to use the overage for juice. No go, ringing up $6.xx. Hydro reported to be ringing up at $5, free if you have the $5 coupons. I also have about 20 of those, planned to use them as xmas gifts for garbage men. Still ringing up $9.xx. I should go back & get three anyway, for the garbage men. But I still have a few months to find gifts for them. Yes, I get xmas gifts for my garbage men. And mail carrier, all teachers, therapists, ladies who work at the newsstand (ack! I should go get more Venus sets).
