Looking for a fun, inexpensive, educational family activity this weekend? Every Presidents’ Day weekend, families all over the country work on their bird identification skills. It’s the Great Backyard Bird Count. Load up your bird feeders, or just put some dishes out with seed in them. The GBBC website has checklists, identification tips and fun printouts for kids. Then, after you’ve counted what you’ve seen in your own backyard, you report it to the website by March 5. You can count as little or as much as you want over the next few days. The data is then used by the Cornell Lab.
