Budget Cutting: Car/Home Insurance

When was the last time you got a quote on your insurance? If it has been over 6 months, check again.  Here’s my story.

I absolutely LOVED our car insurance. We were with them approximately 8 years. Yes, I said WERE.  For 2 years (3 years ago) I faithfully searched for quotes every 6-9 months. Our company was always the cheapest. I gave up looking about 1.5 years ago because it is slightly time-consuming and tiring.

One year ago I was in a car accident. Our mini van was totalled and we were so grateful for accident forgiveness. Our policy didn’t change….until 6 months later. It went up $15 so no big deal. Prices change sometimes, right? We then, for the first time in our life, got a second vehicle. I was a bit surprised at how much basic coverage with no collision cost for a vehicle that is considered worth about $500 but since my car accident I figured there was no point shopping around.  Well, the other day we called to add renter’s insurance.  The rate they quoted was double what they quoted shortly before my accident.

Our policy is almost up and my husband decided to call someone he has spoken with through work just to see what the rates would be to change. Even figuring in the accident, we will save $300 a year!!!

Make the call, fill out an online quote, you just never know where you COULD be saving money.

Here are a few links you can check out to see if they can save you money, and no I am not saying where we were or switched to. I can honestly say that if our rates weren’t so much higher we would have stayed where we were.
