I had the morning all to myself, no kiddos! So I took some extra time to check out the AG Lions Book Barn. It’s been there, at the site of Mother Earth mushrooms, for I don’t know how long. Each time I’d pass it I’d say to myself, “Self, we need to go check it out some day.” Today was that day!
Wow! I can’t believe I didn’t go in there sooner. Very well organized, very clean. I was just amazed at the time it must have taken to organize all those books. They are organized by hardcover/paperback, fiction, nonfiction and then topic (gardening, religion, etc.). In some cases I noticed they were even alphabetized.
The best part–all the books are $0.25-$1.00. Nothing above $1.00!
In true mom fashion, I spent most of my time in the children’s section. What a trip down memory lane I had, it was just fantastic. I don’t know where all these donated books come from, but it’s like they went back to 1975 and took them from my childhood bookshelf. There was a fantastic selection of Little Golden Books, all in great condition. Some had the preprinted price on them of $0.29–you know those are from the 70s. I saw Sesame Street books that I remember from childhood, picked those up for the kids. Also found a Little Lulu and Magilla Gorilla book, got those too! I saw a pretty good collection of the Nancy Drew books–same ones I had as a girl, but I passed on those.
The AGL Book Barn is only open April-October, since it is literally in a barn. It’s located in Avondale, near the intersection of 1 and 41. If you know where the Mother Earth Mushroom Farm is, that’s the spot. Just drive down the lane and past the mushroom farm, barn will be on your right.
