Review and Giveaway Text Bands

Secret codes, clubs, passing notes, these are all “fun” things about being a kid. Of course I thought my kids would never make up “clubs” or anything like that. For me, call it the stereotypical “some one always gets left out fear”. However, I found that so far it isn’t too big an issue. My boys tried being part of a club that was exclusive to, well, 3 boys, 2 of them MINE, and when I explained how that could make someone feel if they were left out they changed their tune really quick. A few days later,  enter technology and Hallmark’s text bands. We received a pair of text bands to review. Pictured below are our text bands on my daughter and niece. They wanted in on the action but since they are too young to use them we let them model them and the boys get the perks of keeping them.

text bands

Text Bands are cool wristband gadgets that, just like a watch, kids can wear on their wrist.  My kids love the concept. They can type up to 10 characters into it and then can bump fists or shake hands with their buddy, and the message they typed will transfer to the other person’s text band. Each band has a built in filter to keep kids from passing bad words back and forth.  each band can hold up to 24 messages.

The directions were so simple my 9 year old was able to follow them and get both text bands going without any help from mom. I love it when kids’ things are made easy enough for them to actually set up themselves. (Thank you to the creators of text bands for that small blessing.) The boys love playing around with them and sending each other messages. It is a little silly at times as they try to out do each other in what they say. Through this I have also learned that text speak goes over kids’ heads pretty easily. I think they will be pros in no time though.

Currently the starter kit is available in two colors – charcoal and purple. This includes the band and texting module, and is priced at $14.99.  You can then buy different bands to switch it up, with 8 colorful options to choose from. The bands are $4.99.   They are available at Hallmark God Crown Stores.

Hallmark has graciously offered to give one of our reader’s a set of text bands. The winner will receive 1 set of Text Bands. Please enter below and be advised that we do check to ensure you have actually completed the entry. I would hate to have to disqualify a winner because they didn’t actually complete the entry.  Thanks so much and GOOD LUCK!!

(Review) KC Wearables, Air Shows and Stunt Planes

Last Friday we went to Atlantic City’s Air Show but more on that later. While we were there we had the opportunity to get and review a stunt airplane from Kid Constructions.

You know those cool cardboard draw and build castles, rockets, and other fun things you saw advertised last Christmas? Yeah, something like that. Except this was cooler – it was (is) a stunt plane with a harness kids put over their shoulders and get to play pilot. My kids LOVE it – all 3, from 4 to 9.

My 7 year old has kind of claimed it as his since he turned 7 that day and all things special were obviously meant for him on this glorious of days.  Let me start off by saying that the concept of Kid’s Construction stunt planes being given away at an Air Show was the BEST idea EVER. Really, brilliant strategy.

My “mom” strategy of actually making it on the beach would have been fine if I hadn’t chosen to start when the beach was at it’s busiest. Yeah, brilliant, Heather.

The kids loved coloring it on the beach and then they got to go have fun while I tried to assemble it. The picture directions are fairly easy as long as you start at #1. Yes, please. Start at #1. It goes much smoother. Don’t LOOK at #2 until #1 is accomplished.  Here is where there is one little bitty problem. There isn’t a pre-bend in the cardboard when you are folding and tucking tabs. (I know it would be much easier to see but the thing is already together. Just keep this tip in mind WHEN you buy one. Really, you should get one because this is one of the best products I have seen in a while that you can get to stir your kid’s creativity, craftiness, and imagination all at the same time.)

After I figured out the extra bend the air craft went together like a dream. I looked pretty amazing assembling A WHOLE AIRPLANE ON THE BEACH. Ha!
Once it was together, the predicament was, “Who gets to try it first?” I went with the birthday boy. We had a great photo – op in my opinion. I will, of course, show that off in a minute. People stopped a few times and asked about it. They thought it was pretty cool.  Then, on the boardwalk, my son got a few comments AND admiring glances. You know, the cool kid in orange on the boardwalk, wearing a stunt plane? That was my kid.

I was a little worried that we would get home and it would be forgotten but they have played with it a little bit every day so far (4 days of play isn’t too bad for the record.) I personally would choose to purchase it for a special birthday or holiday present but it would even be great for an every day kind of treat.

For more information you can check Kids’ Construction Wearables out online. They also are on Twitter and Facebook.

Value – at $24.95 + S&H I would much prefer to buy something like this than a video game. The stunt plane is a great activity for them to decorate and then help build, and encourages creativity and imaginative play – a favorite type of toy in my house.

Disclaimer: I received a free Bi-Plane kit for the review of this product. I did not receive any other compensation and all opinions are my own.

Papa Johns, The Phillies, and Cheap Pizza

Pizza and Papa John’s obviously go together but baseball? And more specifically, the Phillies? I have no idea how far away this deal works but locals, you can score 50% any normal priced order today because……..

THE PHILLIES WON WITH OVER SIX RUNS YESTERDAY!

What do you have to do? Well, first off, you need to sign in to Papa John’s online and order online. Make sure you sign up for Papa John’s rewards so you can earn points on your purchases. Place your order, enter Promo code PHILLIES6 and you are golden. Watch that total cut in half.

I know, baseball season is almost over but they have an Eagles promotion too.  With that one, a large cheese pizza starts at $10 and every touchdown the eagles score, you get to take $1 off, so the other day they scored 3 touchdowns. The next day a large cheese pizza was $7.  I don’t have a promo code for that one. It simply says to order online or in-store.

My husband and I have a date night tonight so I know what the kids are having for dinner. A large white pizza with pepperoni. Cost? $6.63!! With a busy day ahead, this is the perfect day for ordering a cheap and (not so healthy) take out treat.  I’ll add a side of baby carrots.
