Area retail rumors

Note–these are just rumors I’ve heard, haven’t spoken with anyone at any of the companies or stores–

Walgreen’s-new store coming to Route 41 & Old Balt Pike, closing store at Penn Green Road.

Whole Foods-coming to site in Glen Mills where Genuardi’s used to be.

London Grove shopping center-I’ve heard tons of rumors, everything from Olive Garden (apparently couldn’t get a liquor license, but that doesn’t make sense) to Arby’s to a hunting/outdoors supply store.

I did read in the paper where Superfresh applied for zoning to expand their store in Longwood, which was stated that they need to compete because the Walmart is going to expand & convert to a super WM with food and stuff.

The old Acme shopping center-I heard that they were putting a Safeway in there, but that doesn’t make sense to me. Now practically all the stores have left–even Capriotti’s moved out to Longwood. Only the nail place and Dollar General is left. So who knows? I just hope it doesn’t sit there, abandoned. What an eyesore. But the McDonald’s is brand new, and surely they researched what was going to be there prior to rebuilding, right?

  1. I guess I am happy about Whole Foods, but I really wish it were a Wegman's. I have heard such great things about that store. I'm definitely happy about the Superfresh, their produce department needs help. And I can't imagine the Genaurdi's will be there too much longer, that place is a ghost town. I am always shocked when I meet people who say they only shop there, their produce section is worse than Superfresh. Since they are a Safeway owned store, it really wouldn't make sense for them to move to the old Acme location when they already have a store they coul just convert to a Safeway, but I am no expert in the grocery business!
