Tax Time with X-ACTO

Do you dread tax time? For some reason I don’t. I think that reason mainly has to do with the fact that my husband does most of the work. While I’d certainly rather keep my money, overall I’m not really disturbed by paying taxes, I understand it’s my civic duty. We have an unofficial tradition in our household that we do the taxes on Super Bowl weekend, but it didn’t happen that way this year–they’re still not done.

Recently I was asked by Social Fabric, Elmers and X-ACTO to share with you some great office supplies they are promoting, just in time for tax season. It’s kind of funny that they asked me to participate in a project involving the #XACTO Spira pencil sharpener, because we legitimately needed one. A pencil sharpener is one of those so-very-common household items, yet at the same time, many households don’t have one. Including ours! We (read: hubby) is doing some work on our kitchen, and always needs pencils to do markings on walls and stuff. We found a zillion pencils but we had no sharpeners so he whittled one with a knife! I wish I could find it and post a picture, but I think we recently tossed it.

That's our new printer, also from Walmart.

Anyway, first they sent me this awesome X-ACTO Spira coupon for the Spira pencil sharpener by X-ACTO. I love printable coupons and I print them weekly, and post them on my site daily. I was psyched to find such a high value one. Now for the hard part–getting to Walmart to get the pencil sharpener. I have two small children, so a “quick trip to Walmart” is anything but. But, as my timing worked out, last Friday I got done with work a bit early and could pop into the store and get it before I had to get my boys at the babysitter’s house.

I had the printable coupon in my purse, but not my entire coupon binder which meant this truly was going to be a quick trip. Normally if I had the time and energy, I’d poke around the store matching up deals and clearanced items with my coupon binder to see what I could find.

I heart the office supplies aisle.

The school supplies/office supplies aisle in Walmart is one of my favorite aisles. It just always brings me back to days in my youth, anticipating the beginning of a new school year. I found the pencil sharpener and chose black. They also had red and white but that really wouldn’t go with the yellow, tan and black theme of our home office. So black it was. The clearanced stuff was also in that area of the store and I picked up some cheap stickers for the boys to play with. The X-ACTO Spira pencil sharpener fits in well with the color scheme and styling of our office. It’s easy to use and works quickly. While I am still going to keep my boys away from it, it doesn’t appear to be inherently unsafe–certainly not like a paper shredder or something, know what I mean? I don’t think they could get their fingers in it. My husband is pleased that he no longer has to sharpen his pencils with a pocket knife, so we’re all happy.

X-ACTO is a division of Elmers, which seems like a logical business partnership. You can find Elmers on Twitter and find X-ACTO on Facebook. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias. #CBias All opinions are my own.
