Budweiser BBQ sauce catalina

Hubby is making chimichurri for dinner tonight w/skirt steak, needed a few ingredients. “I’ll go!” I yelled, half out the door with my coupon binder.

Headed to the Kennett Giant……..only to find………all the Budweiser BBQ sauce gone! I found a shelf clearer! But it’s not someone from this blog, as I had just posted it. Ok, no biggie.

Headed to West Grove Giant. Five bottles left. Picked up the produce items I needed, paid $5.98, got $12.50 back in catalinas! Woo hoo, it works, definitely works.

I didn’t buy 7 to get the gas deal, but that’s low priority for me. If I can make $1.50-$2 per bottle, definitely going to stop in a few times this week. Will keep a few then probably donate the rest to the food pantry or wait until next food drive at hubby’s work.
Yes, I shelf clear. You’ll hear lots of different opinions about this on the various coupon sites. I see no problem with it. Not my responsibility to make sure there is enough product there for the next customer behind me. If a store isn’t adequately stocked for a sale, be mad at them, not the shelf-clearer. You wouldn’t think twice about taking the last two boxes of cereal you’re paying full price for, why should taking the last two BBQ sauce that are free be any different. Sure I was disappointed that one store was out, but that’s just a part of it. Sometimes you get the great deals, sometimes you miss out. There will always be other deals.

I have the $1/2 coupons for this product, so I’m paying $0.50 for each bottle, getting $2.50 back.

This deal is also working at Weis, but I do not know what the price is.

Trying to get back into Giant

I used to be pretty loyal to Giant. Then our new Acme went up and Acme changed it’s coupon policy. Giant was still only doubling coupons up to $0.50, and only one like coupon at a time. Now they’ve changed theirs to match Acme, plus added a gas station at the Kennett location, so they definitely deserve a second chance. And, I know I have a lot of readers from the York/Lancaster area, and I know you don’t have Acme, but you do have Giant.

The go-to deal this week, for the supercouponers, is the Budweiser BBQ sauce. There is a $0.55/1 coupon in the June 13 inserts. The sauce is $1. So free BBQ sauce. Wait–it gets better. For each one you purchase, you’ll get a $2.50 on your next order catalina (oyno cat). And even better, buy 7, get the cats, and get an extra $0.20 off your gas. Just for grins, I would buy one, go through self checkout, make sure you get the catalina, before purchasing more. The Solo cups are also a part of that same gas deal, and there are $1/1 solo coupons out, came out a few weeks ago. Again, only a good deal if you need them.

I’m also excited about the Danimals, which my kids love. $2 each, there are $1 coupons that came out a week or two ago.

Thomas English Muffins are $1, I have $1 coupons that I got on the package. Look for specially marked packages. These freeze well.

Dannon yogurt is 10 for 5, or $0.50 each. $1 off 10 coupons came out within the past few weeks, knocking it down to $0.40 each. I refuse to pay more than $0.50 a cup for yogurt. This crap with stores charging $1 or $1.10 is ridiculous, especially since the cups are down to 5 or 6 oz each.

Don’t throw out those coupon inserts!

If you get the Sunday paper, perhaps you’ve already looked at your coupon inserts. You didn’t see anything that interested you, so in the recycle bin they went. Wait! Find a drawer or another spot somewhere, and save them. They are dated on the spine for later reference. While an item may not be appealing to you right now, things look better when they are free. And when you’re getting paid to take them out of the store, you’ll really regret not having that coupon.

And if you want to start doing multiples, consider asking friends, family and neighbors for their inserts. Or libraries, schools, Wawa even will do it, depending on the manager.

CVS-July 25-Aug 2

This week is looking very promising. Unfortunately I spent most of my Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) during the previous diaper deals, so I probably will end up spending more out of pocket than I’d like. That’s ok, then I’ll have more ECBs to roll into future deals, certainly won’t go to waste.

First, sometimes I’ll post an item and say “It’s free!” That may not always apply. I’m going on the assumption that you already have ECBs to work with, and not everyone does. But nevertheless, it means you will get the same amount back in ECBs that you put into the deal.

For example, this month, the CVS brand pantiliners, 22 count, are 2 for $1. Then when you buy 2, you get $1 back in ECBs. So even if you’re not planning on doing this whole “rolling ECBs” thing, even if you’re just going in to purchase one item, why not just buy the pantiliners first? I mean, say you’re purchasing contact lens solution, which you need. You were going to buy it anyway. Look in the flyer first, see which items are giving back the same amount in ECBs that they cost. Buy those items first, then use the ECBs to pay for the contact lens solution. Get it? You’ve spent the same amount of money as originally planned, you just got a few extra items.

Ok, on to this week:

Of course the big draw for me is the Pampers. For several years now, I’ve done all my trips and rolling ECBs on the goal of getting free diapers. Big box is $21.99 (a horrible price, btw) and you get $10 ecb back. Of course ideally we’d all have $20 worth of ECBs, sacrifice half of them for the diapers.

Reminder, scan your card at the coupon scanner first, maybe you’ll get a $4 off $20 coupon. Please please please let me get one. Because all I have are the $1.50 Pampers coupons from the 7/4 inserts, and about $12 ECBs. So this box of diapers will cost me about $8 out of pocket, ouch. I know, I know, that’s less than 50% cost, but I haven’t really paid for diapers since 2006.

Arm & Hammer laundry detergent, on sale 2 for $7. Get $2 ECB back. Use the coupons here. Hopefully the gel will be included, making it 2 for $5, get $2 back, or $3 final cost. $1.50 for laundry detergent is great.

Kotex U stuff: $4.99 with $4.99 back. Use the $1 coupon here, pay $3.99, get $4.99 back! That’s what supercouponers call a moneymaker!

Photobooks-$7.99, get $7.99 back. I love love love these things and do this deal every time they come around. Tip–I wouldn’t use more than 20-25 photos, or they are too small. Look for store coupons in booklets, maybe laying around the photo center.

Aveeno is buy $20 worth of stuff, get $10 back. Personally, anything that gives me 50% or greater return on my ECBs, I give it a second glance. Again, scan your card, maybe you’ll get a $4 off $20 purchase, which means you’ll only pay $16, get $10 back. Aveeno has also been pushing this “Ageless Vitality” stuff pretty hard, I know there are rebates and printables online.

There are some decent deals to be had. Remember, the CVS game is all about rolling. Even if you don’t want to do it long term, you can do it trip by trip. Get the Kotex U first, pay $3.99, get $4.99 back. Use the $4.99 ECB to pay for the laundry detergent. Use those ECBs to help pay for the photo books. Use the photobook ECBs to help pay for the diapers and so on.

Until I took a break last year, I was rolling the same ECBs from the summer of 2006 until the fall of 2009. Seriously.

Yes, initially it can be overwhelming and take more time. But soon your brain just thinks in terms of deals and it’s second nature.
