My rockin' trip to Walmart tonight!

I haven’t had a nice freebie trip in a long time. It was nice to leave the kids with dad and just wander the aisles, doing matchups.

Here are the items & coupons I had that were either free, very cheap or overage:

Bic Shavers, 4 pk-$2.88, $3 coupon from 6/5

Tic Tacs-$1.04, $1 coupon from 6/12

Reach Floss-$0.88, $1/1s or $2.50/2s from: 1/9 and 4/17

Dial Bodywash-$0.97, $2 coupon from 6/12 inserts

Rayovac batteries-$0.97, $1 coupons from 6/5; sometimes printables on Facebook too.

I had read on hotcouponworld that there was some Purina One ringing up at $0.75 and $1.25, to go with the $2 coupons from 5/22. I had six of those coupons, but I scanned darn near every bag, and I couldn’t find it.

And that was really it–I just had at least six or eight of every one of those coupons, and then I used the overage to get some other cheap stuff. The Walmart brand oatmeal, 12 pks, is on rollback to $1.68. The way they run hubby’s food drive contest at work, they count items. So he’ll get 12 points for each box of oatmeal I got him, 4 points for each pack of four razors, and so on. I also got cheap cans of tuna, found bags of pasta for $0.50, a few dozen of the $0.12 packets of koolaid mix, some tortillas that were $1 for 12 (not positive he’ll get 12 points for that, though) and so on.

When I checked out, I felt like I was on tv. See, when I do this, I don’t write everything down on paper and figure it out to the penny. I wing it. So if I picked up ten packs of razors, I knew that meant I had $1.20 in overage. Went to the Dial, got eight of those, mentally added another $8.24 to my overage. Then, hopefully as I’m adding in fillers, I’m subtracting correctly. I knew I wasn’t going to come to zero, but I honestly had no idea what my total was going to be.

My pre-coupon total came to $90.xx! Ouch! I really didn’t think it was that high–dental floss doesn’t take up a whole lotta space in a cart, so it didn’t look like much. But my very friendly (and I’m being serious!) cashier scanned and scanned and scanned, people behind me were tuning it to what was happening…..and it came down to $9.78. Whew! Actually my totals were $87.62 + $3.16 in tax, then down to $6.62, still had to pay the $3.16 in tax.

But hey, I was pleased! Hubby said that the team’s goal is 175 items per person, he had 140 boxed up before I went tonight. I haven’t counted exactly how many items I got, with counting packets of oatmeal and individual razors and all, but I know he’s probably at 250 by now. Plus, I’m picking up some stuff from a fellow couponer tomorrow, plus I have to hit Acme and Walgreen’s still for more freebies.

Acme ad, June 17-23, highlights & matchups

Not too much to get excited about. Since Father’s Day is this weekend, there are some meat & seafood deals. You may want to check those out if you’re having your Dad’s Day feast at home.

BOGO items:

Entenmann’s

Lay’s products

Maier’s bread

Pepsi two liters-0.89

Starbucks bag coffee & VIA-6.99

KC Masterpiece sauce-$0.88-FREE if you have the $1 off ones from 5/15.

General Mills stuff-select cereals, BC fruit snacks, NV granola, Chex Mix-$1.75 each when you buy 5, must buy 5. Not too bad if you have any coupons that are anywhere from $0.50-$1.00 off one. Would it kill them to include Honey Nut Cheerios?

Coke products, 12 pks-6 for $13, must buy 6 to get that price

And that’s really it, a very boring ad. I’ll update if I see anything else jump out at me.

The P&G Gift Card offer (from May) + tips on redeeming cards

Remember the Procter & Gamble offer that Giant ran for several weeks in April & May? The one that was spend $100, get a $25 gift card?

I got my card in the mail this week. One part of the mailer said something like “Here’s your $25 gift card” and another part said something about $10 being on the card. I checked the balance online, using the website they gave, and it had $10 listed. I sent an email. The first response I got gave me an 800 number to call and said I had to take it up with P&G. While I was mulling that over, another email came. It said that $10 cards were sent out in error, and that another $15 card would be coming in the mail.

If you get a $10 card, I’d just wait a few weeks and see if another one comes before you call or email.

Now, redeeming these things can be a pain in the butt, so I’m a bit miffed at having to redeem two of them instead of one. When you redeem it, I highly recommend making a purchase that will use up all of it. Because when you give it to a cashier, he/she has to punch in the amount that is on the card, as you enter it. For example, since mine is a $10 card, let’s say I make a $12 purchase at Acme. I just swipe my card, it will be declined. Because the computer is looking for $12 on the card and can only find $10, therefore it’s thinking I have insufficient funds, and declining it. The cashier has to punch in that you’re making a $10 payment with the card, swipe it, and then it should work. Or, use self-checkout someplace where you can just do it yourself.

Because the cashier has to punch in the amount is why I don’t recommend using the card more than once-dump the entire amount while you can.

I wouldn’t even bother trying to use it at a gas pump! I tried that with the $10 Kellogg’s cards we got and it was a nightmare.

Sometimes saving money is a bit of work! I just keep reminding myself that these gift cards enabled me to get several boxes of diapers and wipes for super cheap.
