{review and giveaway} Pur Minerals and Beautiful Creatures~win makeup, gift certificates or trip to Hollywood~ends Feb 17

Recently I was asked to try the new eyeshadow palette from Pur Minerals, the one they made that is inspired by the movie Beautiful Creatures. I was torn—despite not wearing makeup that often I’m actually pretty picky about my makeup, but….I can never resist a good freebie so I said “Sure, please send and I’ll try.”

When I got the makeup in the mail, first I was excited. I love getting a good surprise in the mail. Once I opened it, at first my heart sank.

Wanna know why? I really dislike brush eyeshadow applicators. I know, I know….all the beauty and fashion magazines say it, the beauty people on all the morning shows say it–that you should use a brush instead of a sponge applicator. But I’ve just never found a brush applicator that I’ve liked. I immediately liked the colors and knew they are colors I would wear, I can always use a good black eyeliner…but I just didn’t see myself using it much because of the applicator. However, I was obligated to try it, so I did.

And I think Pur Minerals may have changed my mind about brush applicators–because I actually like this one! It holds the eyeshadow as well as a sponge applicator, or maybe it’s the consistency of the eyeshadow that helps. Whatever it is, I love it. The colors are fantastic–there are darks for when I want to be more dramatic or go out at night, and lighter colors for daytime. There’s also a mix of frosts and mattes which is good.

Now, for the release of this new makeup collection and the movie Beautiful Creatures, they have an awesome giveaway going on right now. Starting today and running through 2/17, you can enter below. One Grand Prize winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to purminerals.com and the limited-edition collection inspired by the film Beautiful Creatures free. Five winners will receive a $25 gift certificate to purminerals.com. To enter, you must sign-up for the Pür Minerals newsletter. You may also gain additional entries by completing the following actions: “Like” Pür on Facebook, follow Pür on Twitter and tweet about the contest (daily entry). Winners will be chosen at random. The more entries a person gains, the better the chance of winning!

Now, I have to wag my finger a bit…because lately I’ve been getting some really crappy contest entries. WE DO VERIFY your entries. So if you click that you’ve signed up for the email, we’re going to check and so on. It’s disappointing (and mildly annoying) to have to pick several winners because the entries don’t check out. If you don’t want to like us on Facebook or sign up for the email…don’t enter the giveaway, thanks.

Good luck, have fun and let us know if you win!

Review and Giveaway~purminerals cosmetics~win a spring make up kit or an iPad!

Recently I had the opportunity to try some purminerals cosmetics. It was a blogger program that I had signed up for, and I received the products at no charge in exchange for the review. All opinions expressed are my own. Or Heather’s. But I’ll get to that in a minute.

I wanted to do this because I use “minerals” cosmetics, only I’ve never used pur. I don’t want to mention their competitors by name, but I’ve used several and liked some and disliked some. But I am always anxious to try new things and this seemed like nice stuff. As it turned out, the day the products arrived, Heather (who writes here) was at my house. I opened the box while she was here and started looking at the stuff. One of the items–the plumping lip gloss, I knew I’d never use it. I often purchase lip stuff with the best of intentions, but I never use it. I have very small lips and think any kind of lip color looks odd on me. So I gave it to her. She said that she really liked it, likes the way it goes on. Her only complaint is that it is much too glossy for her style. If you like a glossy gloss, then this is for you.

I also received the pressed mineral foundation, the tinted moisturizer, and the pressed mineral blush. It took me a day or two to get used to a pressed mineral foundation (I had been using a loose powder) but once I did, I really like it. The tinted moisturizer–well, it’s just a bit too “tan” for my February face right now, but I like it. Once spring/summer comes and I get a bit of natural sun color it will work out great. It also has SPF in it which I like. At my age, I am concerned about wrinkles and sun damage, but at the same time like a bit of color. This fits the bill!

If you had asked me a few years ago about makeup, I really did not have a preference. I would buy whatever I could on clearance or on a deal with coupons. Now that I’m a tad older, I am getting more picky. I like that purminerals has vitamins in it, retinols, lactic acids….all the stuff to help me look younger and less sleep deprived! I don’t wear makeup every day, so I am starting to lean more towards what the products have to offer, rather than just picking up the cheapest stuff. Plus, you can still find deals! I found a $20 off $60 purchase for purminerals, at savings.com.

To kick off their spring line of cosmetics, purminerals is hosting a fun giveaway. Twenty winners will get a Spring Kick-Off kit, and one grand prize winner will get a iPad!
