Diapers & Wipes price round up, week of November 6

Here we go, the weekly price round up!

First, as always, the coupons! Last week had the P&G inserts that included Pampers. Huggies was 10/23, and here’s a $2 printable. Huggies, Pampers and Luvs all also do home mailers and other harder to find options. If you have the Walgreens Infant Care booklet, they expire 12/31, so it’s time to stop hoarding those coupons and think about using them. I think I’ve had one booklet left, since March or April, just waiting for the perfect deal.

Here are two SavingStar offers for you to load on to your shopping cards. These rebates can be stacked in addition to sales, coupons and Extra Bucks and stuff like that.

And, when you go out, if you do purchase Pampers, look for these specially marked packages that have $5 of coupons inside.

diapers, diaper coupons

Now, on to some of the prices. Remember that item counts vary by size of diaper, so you want to use your phone/calculator and figure out how much you’re paying per diaper or wipe. Personally, I prefer to stay at a penny per wipe or less, and won’t pay $0.03 or more unless I’m desperate. Diapers, my kids are in the bigger sizes now, so I aim for $0.15 or less per diaper, definitely under $0.20. More than that, only if absolutely necessary.

Amazon:

Ok, lots of good deals to be found right now, as most of the major brands are offering $2 & $3 clickable coupons. You can only use each coupon once. So, for example, if you buy Pampers and click the $2 coupon, if you buy any other Pampers, you cannot use it again (at least in that account). But you can still go and find a pack of Huggies and use that $3 coupon, but only once.

Here’s what you want to do:

Go to the Amazon diapers and find the brand, variety, count and size of diaper that you want, and while you’re looking at the page, make sure it has a coupon that looks like this:

diaper coupons

Click image to see more Huggies.

If it does, click the coupon to activate it, and, click “Subscribe & Save” to save another 20%. Now, calculate your price per diaper to make sure it’s a decent deal–most of what I’ve found is under $0.20 per diaper which I think is good. Amazon allows you to cancel Subscribe & Save any time after your order has shipped. If you choose the bigger boxes vs the smaller packs, they qualify for FREE shipping too.

Luvs big packs (66-108 ct) are $16.99

It’s not my imagination! TLC is affecting us.

Interesting article today in Entrepeneur Magazine–How to Stop Losing Money from Coupons.

If you’ve been following me for as long as “that show” has been on, you know I’m not a fan. And I’m prone to rant about it.

My existential couponing crisis

Anyone else sick of Extreme Couponing?

Retailers getting tougher on couponers

If TLC is The Learning Channel, What are we learning?

But, as shown in the Entrepeneur article, retailers have had enough. Also, if you’ve followed this blog, you’ve surely noticed I’ve cut way back on the amount of matchups I do.  Even promoting home delivery services like Peapod. Make no mistake, I’m still a serious couponer. In fact, just scored a nice haul of detergent today at Target, on clearance + coupons. But I also heard from a couponing friend that was hassled tonight at our local Acme, and they wouldn’t take her bogo printables.

Look, I am friends with several of the bloggers/couponers that have been on that show. They’re nice people and the ones that I know are honest, polite and to my knowledge don’t commit coupon fraud. But by and large, that show has been a disaster for us that have been doing this a long time. My hope is that this will blow over within a year or two, the economy will rebound more and people will lose interest. Couponing does take time and it’s not for everyone. Another one of the reasons why I don’t just bring you coupon deals. If you try to save money solely by clipping coupons, you’re not going to come out that much ahead. Grocery budgets are only 9-10% of your household budget–even if everything is free, you still have 90% of your household budget to look at, for ways to trim money.

If this is your lifestyle, we’ll evolve. If you are just in this for the freebies and think it’s easy to just walk into a store and walk out with four carts of crap for free………then you’ll probably fade away. The guidelines have gotten gradually stricter over the past 5 years, increasingly more strict over the past year. But, I’m still able to find very cheap and free stuff, and have no plans to stop. The difference is that most of us die-hards are reasonable about it, not demanding to cashiers, nor do I commit fraud to get there.

Thanks to one of my fellow mods on hcw for the heads up on the article!
