Just bringing this post back to life, since I know lots of families were waiting for the after-Christmas sales to get a tablet. Us too! Ours is on backorder.
First, here you go, here is a great article from geek.com comparing the various readers and tablets.
Update, 11/22: My husband has decided on a tablet! First of all, he works in IT. And like many men he loves electronics. So when it comes to things like this, I tell him what my needs and wants are, and he shops around. I have already purchased and returned a few tablets. I did not like the 7″ screen. And on one, it wasn’t allowing me to add apps, which is kinda the whole point. I have a son with autism, and he is non-verbal. We also want a tablet that we can add apps to, and perhaps for him it can be a communication device. I found some tablets right around the $100 mark and less–they were junk. Yet at the same time, my son may be taking this back & forth to school, so I’m not sending him off with an $800 iPad2. I decided I do not want a smart phone, but I do go to many social media/blogger events, so I wanted a tablet for that reason. All I need is email, facebook, twitter, photos and other fun apps. My 2 year old, he just likes to play angry birds. So keeping all that in mind–what we will use it for, the fact that I didn’t want a super cheap one, nor a very expensive one, plus we definitely wanted 10″, and one that has enough horsepower to not be outdated in a few years……….this is what we came up with. Amazon has the cheapest price right now, even at New Egg it’s $22 more.
This will be our family Christmas gift.
Why my husband talked me out of the Kindle Fire: First, he felt it wouldn’t have enough horsepower and memory to get all the apps we’d want. Second, he explained to me that the whole system basically works on the premise of lending/leasing music, not purchasing it. This is more beneficial to businesses of course. He felt that for twice the money, we’d get much more than twice the tablet. The audit/video quality is superior, that many not matter to some people, it does to him.
