Word World Fans-DVD giveaway!

Hey there Smart Spenders! This is your chance to win free items from Word World. Smart spending isn’t just about how you spend your money, it’s about how you spend your time too. What I love about so many of the PBS shows is that they have take-away activities you can do with your child. Plus, if I plunk my kid in front of the TV so I can shower, I don’t feel guilty about what he’s watching–their shows are educational.

WordWorld is the first preschool series where words are truly the stars of the show. Duck and his lovable, legible WordFriends–animals whose bodies are made up of the letters that spell the word they are–go on comic adventures and face challenges that can only be resolved with the right word. That word is built letter by letter, or sound by sound, during the funky “Build a Word” song at the end of every episode. Once the word is built, it “morphs”–comes alive–into the thing it is!

Word building reinforces the pre-reading concept that letters (and their sounds) make words, and that words have real meaning…and power. WordWorld also introduces essential emergent literacy concepts such as sounding out letters, “chunking” words, and rhyming that all children encounter as they learn to read.

WordWorld is an innovative, independently tested and proven television program that facilitates interactive parent and teacher work with early literacy. 

While you may be familiar with the television show, you may not know that WordWorld also offers free online resources for parents and teachers at WordWorld.com. Then, visit the various Word World activities listed above in the links. Leave a comment here with your first name, last initial, and which activity looks most interesting for you & your child, or which one you plan on doing.

FREE newspaper subscription! Last few hours! Prize package=$100+

I have a whole bunch of giveaways to celebrate the inauguration of Smart Spending Spot.

Here is how the giveaways will work:

**Please Note:**You must leave a comment on this post to be considered entered into the contest. Just liking me over on facebook does not enter you, you have to do both, per the first time I posted this.

1. After you read this post, leave a comment at the end telling us what your favorite section of The Daily Local or Delco Times (or your local paper) is. Leave your first name and last initial.

2. Go and like Smart Spending Spot on Facebook. When I pick winners at random from the comments, I will cross reference it to match your name on Facebook.

Every time we hit 25 more likes, a new prize is added. Right now it’s at about 60, and the first prize is a 3-month subscription to either The Daily Local or Delco Times. Even better, there will be two winners-if you are not in the service area of either the DL or DT, you will win a subscription of your choice. Think about it, FREE coupons for 3 months! What is better than enjoying your morning cup of coffee or tea with the local paper?

I will add another prize when we hit 100 likes. Sometimes the prize will be added to the kitty for the winner of the newspaper subscription, sometimes a random entry will be chosen and that prize will be given away instantly. Yes, you can win more than once. I use random dot org to pick winners.

I have lots of great prizes to give away, including-Boscov’s gift cards, magazine subscriptions, movie passes, $10 Amazon codes, Barnes & Noble gift card and more. This giveaway will run until midnight on Thursday, March 24. I’ll announce winner on Saturday.

Monday, March 21 edit: Yay! We’ve hit 100 likes so as promised, I’m adding prizes. I’m adding two prizes, one for now and one for later. The first prize is a $10 Amazon code for shopping on Amazon. That will go into the kitty and go to whoever wins the newspaper subscription.

Thursday, March 24 edit: Last day to enter and this is the prize package-Prize package now includes the newspaper subscription, $10 Amazon code, $15 Boscov’s gift card, $20 Barnes & Noble gift card and a $10 Gift Card to AMC theatres.
