Get Fit: For FREE or Close to it

Maybe you don’t need to lose weight but no matter who you are, if you aren’t exercising, you aren’t doing something your body desperately needs. Get moving and get that heart rate up.  Even just 1o minutes a day will make a difference. I have been exercising every day for the last week. Well, we were gone Thursday – Saturday and I didn’t really have a chance to do my fitness routine. Friday evening I was incredibly sluggish and grumpy. I decided to try to get a little of my Shred routine in. I did so with much creativity. I only got one circuit in but WOW! I felt so much more energized. It is amazing what just a few minutes (1o’ish) can do. There are so many reasons people don’t get fit and the main one I hear is-

“I can’t afford the gym.”

There are so many gym options out there right now. Not all of them are exclusive and costly. Some offer child care and others do not.

YMCA has a sliding fee membership based on income?  Call your local Y to check it out. I loved the 2 free hours of  childcare and wish I had had TIME to keep going (yes, time is one of the reasons we will talk about).

Check out 24 Hour Fitness near you for a FREE week membership. Nothing better than try before you buy.

Still can’t handle the costs? Try a DVD.

Jillian Michael’s – 30 Day Shred gets rave reviews – I have done it in the past and just started using it again.  It gives results. The best part is your out-of-pocket expenses aren’t high. For a limited time the DVD is $6.99 on Amazon. The cheapest I have seen it elsewhere is $8.99 in stores and online. The only other things you need are a pair of weights  and a yoga mat if you have something other than carpeted floors. TIP: you can start out using soup cans for weights. Start with Campbell’s soup cans and work up to larger ones. I rewarded myself with REAL weights once I hit my first goal.  Here is the set I purchased. Purchase the set and DVD together to get FREE super saver shipping!

Want something a little lower key? Try Walk Away the Pounds .  Again, currently  priced at $6.49 you don’t have much to lose.  I occasionally use this program and it provides a nice program. Best of all, people find it works – YES! Walking in your livingroom WORKS! I was recently talking with a friend who said she and her husband used it for several months and lost 30 and 40 pounds each just from this 1 mile program!  This is especially great for those who cannot afford a treadmill and cannot walk outside for one reason or another.

Still too much $$?

Netflix has a whole section of fitness programs – instant play and DVD in the mail.

YouTube

Check your cable or satellite listings. Many have fitness channels and on Demand listings.  With any of these options I do recommend that if you find something you really enjoy you buy a copy because you never know when they will disappear from your menu. (That’s the voice of experience talking.)
