PA residents & electric choice

When 1/1 came, Pennsylvanians were finally able to shop around for electric rates. Somehow, everyone said that therefore our rates would go up, though I’m not sure how or why. I would think that more choices would mean more competition, therefore lower prices. Anyway, here is my post from early January. It tells you a bit about choosing a provider and so on. I’m still trying to stay on top of this, to make sure I wasn’t offered some teaser rate and then my rates are going to skyrocket.

I got an offer in the mail for a $50 Visa GC when I choose this provider. Overall, despite that this provider has a higher rate than my current provider, if I take into account the $50 gc, I’d probably make out better. But I’m not a fan of anything that offers ‘early termination fees’ and this place does. At $12.50 per month! I’ll pass.

I currently am still with North American Power, and my kwh rate is 8.99. The rate for this new provider is 9.99. PECO provides an online calculator to compare rates.

Yep, we’re only talking about fractions of a penny, but with all the kilowatt hours that my family of four uses, it certainly adds up over the course of a year. And I like to save wherever I can.
