no inserts today; P&G rebate offer

There are no coupons in today’s paper. This is very common on holiday weekends. There may or may not be inserts next Sunday. Some of the coupon boards are saying “no” there won’t be, but I think there will be another P&G insert.

Speaking of Proctor & Gamble, last week they included a rebate offer in their coupon booklet. Spend $5o on any P&G items, send your receipts in with rebate form, get a $120 value coupon booklet. Eh. I’m not so excited about it. I’ve seen special discussion threads dedicated to this on HCW and other coupon boards.

If there are freebie deals out there, throughout the month of January, that I can hit my $50 threshhold, great. I’ll do it and send it in. But I’m not going to go out of my way (or out of my pocket) to spend $50 on Proctor & Gamble items when for the most part, those are very expensive items and I don’t really need anything. But maybe CVS or Walgreen’s will do a Pampers deal in January which will allow me to get to $50 pretty easily.

Kellogg’s deal-warning

The other day I posted about the Kellogg’s deal at Acme. $1.50 a box, must buy 6 boxes. The ad states “greater or lesser quantities $2.50 each.” I was excited because this time the deal includes Crispix and Frosted Mini Wheats, which are two of Dan’s favorite cereals. I picked up my coupon inserts on Monday and had 36 Kellogg’s $1 off one coupons–so I was thrilled!

In order to try to make sure I got the price of $0.50 a box, I rang up my 6 boxes separately. Yesterday I did two transactions back to back, at self checkout, and both times paid $3 for 6 boxes of cereal. Great!

This morning my plan was to do that again, then do my regular weekly trip. It was 6 am, so self checkout was closed. Boo. I ended up getting Sue, my least favorite cashier. I don’t even mind mentioning her by name, because she treats me with a great deal of contempt. You’d think my coupons are deducted from her paycheck.

Anyway, after she putzed around with newspapers for 10 minutes and pretended not to see me waiting to check out, she checked me out. First 6 went through just fine, $3 after coupons. Second set of 6–$9 after coupons! Yikes, I didn’t get the deal this time. I asked about it and Sue said that “you’re only allowed to get 6 at that price.” I didn’t bother telling her that I had in fact purchased another 12 boxes at that price just the day before.

Anyway, at the end of it all, I got 12 boxes of Crispix and 12 boxes of FMW for $18, or $0.75 a box. Not bad, but not $0.50 a box either–actually one-third higher than what I had planned on paying. I have to pass the Avondale Acme twice a day anyway, I may try again on my way home from work on Monday, just to see what happens, and void the transaction if I don’t get the cheaper price. I have 12 coupons left!

So just a warning–either use self-checkout, or be prepared that the limit on this deal is 3.

Webkinz and Melissa & Doug toys

I was at Avon News yesterday and they are having a Webkinz sale. Kevin is too young for them, but I know they’re popular and can be hard to find. Avon News is on State Rd in ‘downtown Avondale’ right off of 41.

Also, my friend Rachael turned me on to Melissa & Doug brand toys for Kevin. I love them! And so does Kevin. Now Avon News is going to start carrying them. From what I saw yesterday they seemed to have a pretty good selection. They are mostly wooden toys for preschoolers–puzzles and stuff. TJ Maxx used to have a decent selection of them too, but lately it’s the same old stuff, not many choices. I was really tempted to get Kevin some things but I’ve already spent more than I planned on him for Christmas.

You may want to stop in if you need some last minute gifts for preschoolers & kids and don’t want to deal with crowds.
