Clearance Finds at Acme (& some other things)

I had to run in for milk & a few things, and I always stop & check the clearance shelves.

There were lots & lots of powdered drink mixes-Crystal Light, 4C, Propel, on clearance. A whole side of a fixture. I didn’t look too closely because I can’t have artificial sweeteners so I never buy them.

Tampax, the big boxes, on clearance for $4. There are $2 coupons from the last P&G inserts–I think $2 for a big box is a good deal. I got two and left plenty. But at the Avondale store, they are on the bottom shelf, and I pushed them against the back of the fixture. If you’re just standing there at the fixture, kinda hard to see without bending down. Yes, I hid them so that only my readers could find them! Of course, I know that Acme Markets reads this too, so maybe they’ll be moved, lol.

Deli- Dietz & Watson ham is on sale for $5.99/lb. That is an awesome price for that! Almost half off. Good lunch meat deals are hard to find.

There were a few other things I saw but didn’t get……….and now I can’t remember what they were! One was on clearance in frozen foods. If I remember, I’ll add it.

Avondale Walgreen’s update + Happy Harry info

One of our readers just posted on the Facebook wall that she was told that the Avondale Walgreen’s (Penn Green Road & 41) is not ordering any more merchandise because of their pending move. The move is up 41 about a mile or so and scheduled for sometime in May.  I don’t know what this means–if they’ll still continue to receive merchandise already scheduled for delivery, and that perhaps they just can’t order for sales? Who knows….in any event, it will mean a lot more “extreme couponer” traffic for the Longwood location for the next month or so.

Keep that in mind for deals that you want to do–some of them may be turning into “Sunday must-do” deals. I am aware of about a dozen supercouponers in this immediate area–and by that I mean the few that I had breakfast with this morning, then another 4-6 people that I regularly run into at the stores. You can always tell a supercouponer by their binder and by the stuff they have in their cart. I usually introduce myself and hand over my blog business card, because we have the same exact items in our carts and the same coupons in our hands.

If you decide to head the other direction for deals and hit Happy Harry’s, here are some things you need to know:

1. They do not necessarily do all the same promos as Walgreen’s. If you receive a Walgreen’s ad at your home, you definitely need to pick up an HH ad when you get there and double check.

2. If the promo is an Register Reward, and NOT in the HH ad, it WILL NOT print. Don’t do it.

3. If you want to use a Walgreen’s coupon that is in an ad from PA, HH will honor it. *But* if it does not scan, and they have to hand-key it in, you need to be careful.  For example, you know how the Walgreen’s $2 diaper coupon automatically deducted the $2 from both packs of diapers on a bogo sale? Well, if they have to hand-key it in, that will not happen. And good luck convincing a cashier to hand-key it in for you, when the item is free. You can still use a Walgreen’s coupon + a mfr coupon per item at Happy Harry’s. Just double check that it is the sale price you want, they may differ.

For the most part, I stay away from HH for this reason. Or, go online and put in a Hockessin zip code and check an HH ad on the web before you go. I’ve just been burned too many times with RRs not printing and such.

The good news to all of this is that Grand Openings usually means lots of sales, promos & good deals to be had!

Coupon Swap

We had our second official coupon swap this morning at the McDonald’s in Kennett Square. Six couponers, seven kiddos, and one husband exiled to the corner.

I know that the kids had fun in the playland. My two-year-old gave me a really hard time when we had to leave, kept saying “No! No! No!” and squirming so I couldn’t buckle him in his car seat. My 4-year-old cried when we pulled into the driveway.

For most of us, it was our first time meeting each other in real life, though we’ve ‘seen’ each other on online chat boards. So much of it was getting to know you stuff. Add to that I’ve been having a walking migraine for two days and didn’t look at any of my ads last night.

Next week, I promise I’ll be more organized and ready! With this week being slow with deals, I’ll have much more time to regroup.

Hope to see you there!

Any Sunday must-do deals? March 27

This morning at the coupon swap, the general consensus is that there really aren’t any must-do deals this week.

The Skintimate/Edge Shave gel is a good deal at both Walgreen’s & CVS this week. Cheaper at CVS if you have the Extra Bucks to spend instead of cash, but I believe it’s limit one. At Walgreen’s, it comes out to $.50/can after coupons, but there is no limit. Remember to purchase them separately if you go to W’s, no matter how many you buy per transaction, you’ll only get one RR. And RRs DO NOT roll on same items. If you want to roll them, you have to alternate brands/manufacturers.

Axe is bog50% this week at Walgreen’s, with bogo coupons coming out tomorrow. My friend Sarah explained it to me this way, I still get very confused trying to stack these two deals–I’m going to C&P her message to me-

“Okay if there is a bogo 50% on axe theoretically one should be able to use a bogo coupon on the one you’re paying full price for. I say theoretically because walgreen zealot cashiers will make this impossible…but if you have good ones…you should be good to go.

Now

If there are any coupons out for example $1.00/1 or $1.00/2 theoretically again you should be able to use those in conjunction as long as the bogo coupon doesn’t have a 14 in it.

if you use a $1.00/2 you want 2 bogo coupons and buy 4 products.

I should note..that you may want to wait to post until after Sunday because occasionally it ends up showing up as bogo free and/or instead of one showing up completely free it deducts the price down for both.

My assistant managers at my local walgreens are under the zealot type so I don’t try bogo coupons with a bogo sale.”

I’m going to take her advice, wait until Monday and recheck the Walgreen’s forum on hotcouponworld, see what’s happening. I’ll post what I find out.

I tried to renew an Rx this week at CVS and I was 3 days too early, per my insurance company, stupid. So I have to go there anyway and may get the Skintimate. Otherwise, I’m going to sit this week out. My Almay RRs from Walgreen’s don’t expire for 2 weeks, so I’m going to hold out & see if there is a better deal next week to roll them on.

For my groceries this week, I don’t need much. I’m going to go to Superfresh for my dairy items, and to get some of the $1 cheese. $1 for 8 oz of shredded cheese is a great price and something I use quite a bit in cooking. The 8oz bricks are also $1, so I’ll get a few of those for my little guy who is on a cheese kick lately.

I’ll go to Acme just for the Danimals-$1.49 each when you buy 10 items. I have several of the $1 coupons and a friend spotted $.55 peelies on some of them-so that brings them down to $.39/box. Hopefully on Monday or Tuesday when I get there, there is still a decent supply with long exp dates and plenty of peelies.

We interrupt this post to bring you: Juicy Juice Printables!

On sale at Acme this week, part of the buy ten items, save  $5. You can print two per computer, does require registration. So that’s what I’ll do, pop into Acme to get 6 Danimals, 4 Juicy Juice & some produce.

I’m glad for a slow week, gives me a chance to catch up on things. And who knows, maybe Kmart or DG will have something to offer.
