Staying warm this winter without blowing the budget!

The fact that I feel cold despite wearing my thickest jumper and jacket tells me that winter is officially here – oh, and the fact that the month is December is a bit of a giveaway as well! Just like last winter, most people will find that their heating bills increase during the winter in an attempt to fight the cold and stay warm. Here are four tips on heating the house without having to dig too deep into your pockets.

Tip 1 – Insulation

Adding insulation is helps to prevent heat already in your house from escaping and is a great way of making the most of the heat you already have.

Tip 2 – Turn down the heat

There is a tendency to overheat the house when it is very cold outside. Maintain the temperature and make sure you don’t set the heater too high. Opt for setting the heater a little lower than your ideal temperature and wear thicker clothing.

Tip 3 – Draw the curtains

All windows let through some heat – double glazing windows can help minimize this but nevertheless, some wheat will always seep through. Using curtains will help keep much more heat in your house.

Tip 4 – Only heat the rooms you need

If you use central heating to heat your house then make sure you switch off the heating in rooms that you are not likely to use. Do you have a vacant guest room? If yes, then heating this room is unnecessarily adding to your heating bill.
