Happy New Year to PECO customers–you just woke up to electric bills that are 5% higher than they were on 12/31!
There’s been a little bit of talk, not as much media hype as you would expect, surrounding our energy deregulation and choices. If you want some information you can check out this website. Me, I’m not that patient, so I just called my aunt & uncle who own their own electrical contracting company around here. I knew that they had researched it quite a bit and had even attended some conferences on the topic.
What it boils down to is this–if you’re a PECO customer, your rates are going up. They’ve announced it and it was even on NBC10 just this week that come 1/1, we’re paying 5% more. And PECO has announced that they’ll go up again in April. Due to deregulation, other companies can now buy and sell power to you. You can choose someone else other than PECO, but who you choose is up to you. Beware, because everyone is going to try to claim they have the lowest rates and some will offer teaser rates which will gradually go up.
Look at your PECO bill. Find, on the second page, your average monthly use in kilowatt hours–for an average household this will be somewhere around 1200. Look at what PECO is charging you per kWh. Compare that to what other companies are charging per kWh and do the math.
After looking at a few websites, we chose North American Power as our energy supplier. According to the math, I’ll save about $140-$200 per month. Ok, not huge amounts of cash, maybe ten to fifteen bucks a month. But, it took me about 20 seconds to fill out the online form to switch. That’s it. Done. So for just a few minutes of my time in a phone call, some online research and switching over, that’s ten bucks more in my pocket. I’ll take it.
If you go to their website, in the upper right hand corner, choose Pennsylvania. Then you’ll see an online worksheet to calculate your savings (have your PECO bill handy, you’ll need the figures) and another easy link to sign up.
