My quest for PJs leads me to other deals

My older son has no cool weather pajamas. And now that we’ve had a few cool nights, plus the fact that he won’t keep a blanket on at night, makes me feel bad. I had somewhat decided that this weekend, definitely, I would be purchasing them for him.

On Saturday we went out to dinner at Dave’s Famous BBQ. Having lived in Kansas City for a few years, we miss good BBQ and we are glad that Dave’s moved in. What was NOT a bargain–the mac & cheese kids meal. We paid $4.99 for a serving of Kraft Mac & Cheese. The same mac & cheese that I refuse to pay more than $0.50 a box for, was $4.99 for a serving that was probably about 1/3 of a box. Jeez, talk about markup! On the way home, we stopped at Brandywine Town Center.

Old Navy had PJs for him….for $16.50 a pair. Yikes, no thanks. I did find some dog toys on the clearance rack for $0.67 each, so that made me happy.

Yesterday, my sister in law told me that Carters is having a big weekend sale. Lots of stuff for 50% off, then everything is an additional 20% off. I made it my plan to go there.

But first, before trekking all the way to a Carters, none of which is very close to my home, I figured I would check out the Carters PJs in Walmart. I have a love/hate relationship with Walmart, and usually will only go there for free items and absolute necessities. (which btw, reminds me that I heard a rumor we’re getting a Target at the site of the old Kaolin mushroom) But anyway……..stopped in Walmart.

I did not like any of their Carters PJs. We need the kind with elastic around the bottom of the leg, otherwise the pants are always too long for him. But, they did have several PJs that were on clearance for $2. They were all either Faded Glory or George, the Walmart store brands. All were a set of a short-sleeved shirt and pants. Only one design in 5T, so I grabbed them. LOTS of styles in 24m-3t, if you need them, and they definitely had more girls’ than boys’ varieties.

If you go, take your $1 Gain dish detergent coupon from last Sunday’s paper–the Gain there is only $0.97, so free after coupon. And pick up the new All You magazine. It’s only $2.24, but is loaded with coupons–you’ll more than get your $2 back.

Got home, looked at the Carters website. Most items are only about 25% off, the store sales are better. Looked at the store finder and my options. I don’t feel like driving up to Lancaster. For a few moments, I thought about taking the day and heading up to the new Philadelphia Premium Outlets, since I’ve never been there. Woke up this morning just not in the mood for a whole day of shopping.

So I’m going to the closest store, the one on Concord Pike. That journey will take me past a Shoprite, where my friend C has informed me that Hefty trash bags are only $1.24 this week. That means they are $0.24 a box if you have the $0.50 coupon, or $0.74 a box if you have the $1/2 coupon, which is the one I have. I am down to my last box of trash bags and haven’t found a deal on them in a long time.

It also means I have to go right past Goodwill and I have tons of baby stuff to drop off. I went through the basement on Saturday and made three piles–consign now, consign in the spring and donate. That will free up some space in the basement. If they are open, I will take a look for snow boots for the boys.

  1. Please don't tease about the Target, it would make me so happy:). I hate that Walmart is so close, or I would never, never go there. – Shannon
