My favorite free family activity!

Well, one of them anyway…the Pennsylvania Farm Show !  It starts in just a few days. Hosted/run by the PA Department of Agricultre, there is no admission fee. It’s like a gift from the Dept of Ag to state residents. And non-state residents too I guess.

Chances are you’ll have to pay to park, but I don’t remember how much it is, 5 or 10 bucks.

Usually for family outings I recommend you pack lunches to save money, not here! The food court is awesome and reasonably priced. Everything there is from Pennsylvania and you MUST get a milkshake. All the vendors upstairs are from PA, so it’s a great chance to support local businesses.

Tip: Seating in the food court area is VERY limited, especially if you go on a weekend. If it’s reasonable to do so, bring an old sheet with you or something like that. I’m thinking that the $0.75 fleece blankets I bought yesterday at Rite Aid will do well. I will be pushing a stroller though, so it’s no bother to throw a rolled up blanket in the underside carriage.  Or if you have a backpack purse, find one of those disposable sheets or tablecloths or something.  You’ll see many families spread these out on the floor in the food court area to sit down and eat. I’m serious. It’s either that or stand, but even finding some room at the higher standing tables is a challenge when it’s crowded. But the food is worth it!
