Get ready for 2012

Wow! Daylight savings last weekend and the holidays are right around the corner. While I’m bringing you some great deals and tips on saving money throughout the holiday season, we also have to focus on the bigger picture–your overall household budget. Make 2012 your year! Let’s all end 2011 being very fiscally responsible so we can take 2012 head on. There’s nothing worse that waking up from the holidays and facing tax time with a mound of debt. Some ideas for things to do at year end time are: check at work to see that you are signed up for the correct tax deductions and revisit your health care plan during open enrollment.

Another thing we all should probably do is check our credit scores. There are many options online to get a free credit score. Your credit score should be checked once  a year. You also want to know if someone else has been checking your credit score, because if it wasn’t you or as a result of a loan you applied for, can be a red flag for identity theft. I’ve known of several people who were victims of identity theft, and it is ugly! I feel so bad for them–it has been several years and they are still cleaning up the mess. It affects your credit score and it can be expensive to fix. Get your credit score annually so that you know if someone has been looking at your information.
