Disney's The Lion King on Blu Ray

Several weeks ago, I received a “Diamond Collection” copy of Disney’s The Lion King on DVD/Blu Ray. I’m embarrassed to say that I actually forgot that I received it, I’ve been so busy. Except that this morning, I posted about the Cars 2 DVD release next week, and it prompted my memory. Add in a cool, rainy day, a little boy to snuggle with on the couch……..and it was time to watch and review the movie!

I had a previous copy of The Lion King………on VHS. Yikes! I was a huge Disney movie collector in the 1990s, then sort of got away from it. Now that I have two little ones, we’re back into it again. And since technology is so much better now, my husband is really into it too. Watching it in Blu Ray is amazin, I must admit. We also have surround sound and it sounds like the herd is going right through my living room.

Not having watched this movie in years, I had forgotten how good it is. The music, the story line, the characters………..the timelessness of it all is what makes Disney, well, Disney. My little guy just keeps asking me “is he a nice guy or a bad guy?” whenever a new character appears on the screen. It’s very cute. And I had sort of also forgotten about the sad scene, but luckily he just said “Mommy, he’s sleeping.”

Overall, it was a great way to spend a rainy morning with my son. I’m a huge fan of purchasing movies and staying in to watch them. Personally, I much prefer it over going to the theatres. If you haven’t seen the Lion King recently, you should get this. And if you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for? It’s such a classic, it should be a part of every household’s movie collection. Even if you don’t have a Blu Ray player, the technology has advanced enough that your regular DVDs will be much better quality than the VHS tapes you’re used to. Here are several different versions to choose from. Thanks to Disney for giving me a copy in exchange for this review. All opinions expressed are my own. Great holiday gifts, report card gifts, stocking stuffer or a family household treat.
