E-cards offer

American Greetings has a free trial offer right now on e-cards. I looked at some of the cards, and they’re cute. I did not sign up for an account, so I’m not sure if they will ask for a cc# that you later have to cancel, or not. They do have cool features though. You can now add a Facebook feature which means that the card will be sent to them via Facebook. And, you can add on an Amazon gift card too. That’s a good idea, especially for those of us who earn Amazon credit doing surveys and stuff. Build up your points, then use them as gifts and you can send them in a card rather than just a plain email.

Good news for those of us with tick problems

One of my little guys with one of the puppies, last year. Yes, the puppy is intent on destroying Uniqua.

Where I live, the ticks are really, really bad this year. Really bad. Last evening, I saw what looked like a gray jellybean waddling slowly across the floor. It was a disgusting, bloated, still alive tick. Blech. Blech.

Last week, for my weekly newspaper column, I focused on ticks. But there is good news!

The only really proven thing (imho) to work at preventing/killing ticks is fipronil. Say what you want about not wanting to expose kids or pets to chemicals, I don’t care, I use it. It works. And I fully believe it is safe. It is also expensive.

But, I heard about a product, and I wanted to look into it, so I did. I asked a friend who is a veterinarian about PetArmor. It claims to work as well as Frontline and has the same active ingredient-fipronil. This was his response, when I asked if it would work the same as Frontline:

Yes, in theory. Merials patent on Frontline has expired…so this is basically generic frontline. It has just come on the market to my knowledge…so I have no had experience with it or heard if it works as well. It is the same drug though so it should.

And guess what? It is MUCH cheaper than Frontline. With three 100lb dogs, this stuff gets awfully expensive for me, awfully quick! I am really excited about this, this is going to be huge savings for our household.

Check out this cool kid’s desks!

I don’t know about you, but my kids really enjoy small furniture. Seriously, I know that sounds funny, but if we go someplace and there’s kid-sized chair, they love it. We have only one in the house and they both are frequently sitting in it. I bought them a table & chairs that was their size, but the chairs tip over too easily. Then we bought them an all-in-one picnic table type thing with benches, and the benches were too narrow and they were falling off of them. So my hunt continues. Today I found these desks.

I love the look of them. The all in one unit is somewhat cheaper than the Klick model. The ‘Klick’ model-the pieces fit together. Both look very durable and sturdy, like they wouldn’t tip over.

The Klick is quite a bit more and I would need to get two of them. At least once a day, I try to sit them down (they’re 2 & 4) and do an organized learning activity, such as a craft, puzzles or some type of writing. I think if they were sitting at desks, I may get their attention for longer, and it would be a school-readiness skill. Hmmm, one just had a birthday, the other’s is coming up this summer. I don’t really want to wait until Christmas, I feel like I would get a ton of use out of these this summer. Older son goes to an ESY program, but they are still off for extended periods of time in the summer and I want to keep him on track. Hmmm, which one to get? Does anyone have these? And to think I was just popping on to Amazon to check diaper prices!

Nordstrom & Ebates offer, today only

Today the Ebates daily double is Nordstrom. It’s only 12% back, which isn’t any terrific discount, but their items don’t often go on sale at all. Several years ago, when I had my first son, I’m embarrassed to admit, but I saw the bra-fitting episode on Oprah, and I went to Nordstrom just for that. I really don’t like her, but she was right about the bra thing. A new, well fitted bra does wonders! I had a newborn baby and was breastfeeding, so finding a decent bra was an issue for me. The bras were more expensive than I had ever thought I would spend on a bra, but worth it. That was November of 2006, and here I am in May of 2011 replacing them. Expensive yes, but lasted me five years. After all, how many $10-$15 bras have I picked up at  TJMaxx and never worn? Many! Better to spend more on a staple item that you will wear and will last; that’s smart spending.

Not a member of Ebates yet? What are you waiting for? Ebates gives you cash back on the purchases you’d be making anyway.
