Snapfish: Buy 1 Get 2 Free

One of my favorite gifts to give is photo books. Even though you are getting/giving the same gift more than once, it is adding to a collection. It’s like getting another book  in the series. Right now Snapfish is running where you can get 3 books for the price of one. Do you want to get 3 alike or  “this year in a series”?

Act now because this deal is only good through November 26.  When you order be sure to use code  NOVBOOKS.

Tips on how to fix your Facebook feed

Lots of people are complaining about the ‘new’ Facebook. Having watched Mark Zuckerberg give the F8 talk, I can tell you–You ain’t seen nothin’ yet! But I’m as frustrated as anyone. I’m frustrated because I’m seeing stuff I don’t need to see, and not seeing stuff I want to see. And as most bloggers will tell you, we saw an instant decrease in traffic from Facebook to our blogs.

I actually started this post in mid-October but never got around to finishing it. Then, this weekend, I got two emails from readers. They both said that they liked my site and were following it on Facebook, but I wasn’t showing up.

First, check out Good Deal Mama’s post (with photos) on how to get your feed looking like it used to. That should help some, but it’s only one step. If you want to make sure that people and/or pages stay in your feed, you have to interact with them. It can be as simple as “liking” something they post once in a while or leaving a comment, or sharing what they have posted (using the Facebook share feature, of course). If you have people and or pages, and you never interact with them, Facebook bots assume you are not interested and drop them from your feed.

Now, on to sorting the sites you follow so that you can easily access them.

I’d like to thank Heather at Family Friendly Frugality for this next tip. Look at your main Facebook feed–particularly the sidebar on the left. Mine looks like this:

I’m sorry if it’s very small, and yes, I belong to an obscene amount of groups. But look at the bottom-where it says Lists. Just today I learned from Heather how to create a new list. Just click “lists” then create. It then gives you the option to name it, and pick people or pages. I chose pages, and then chose all the deal blogs I want in that list.facebook feed, fix facebook, facebook tutorial

Now when I click that Deals list, I see all the recent deals posted by my favorite blogs. So, of course add Smart Spending Spot and all your favorite blogs so that you don’t miss a deal!

If you need a photo tutorial of this, check out Penny Pinchin Mom’s post about it or the one from Crunchy Frugalista. And Andrea, a fellow Savings.com DealPro, has done a screencast on how to change your Facebook.

Thanks for the tips ladies!

And of course, to never miss a deal, sign up for the Smart Spending Spot email. I only send out 1-2 per week, I promise!

Get ready for 2012

Wow! Daylight savings last weekend and the holidays are right around the corner. While I’m bringing you some great deals and tips on saving money throughout the holiday season, we also have to focus on the bigger picture–your overall household budget. Make 2012 your year! Let’s all end 2011 being very fiscally responsible so we can take 2012 head on. There’s nothing worse that waking up from the holidays and facing tax time with a mound of debt. Some ideas for things to do at year end time are: check at work to see that you are signed up for the correct tax deductions and revisit your health care plan during open enrollment.

Another thing we all should probably do is check our credit scores. There are many options online to get a free credit score. Your credit score should be checked once  a year. You also want to know if someone else has been checking your credit score, because if it wasn’t you or as a result of a loan you applied for, can be a red flag for identity theft. I’ve known of several people who were victims of identity theft, and it is ugly! I feel so bad for them–it has been several years and they are still cleaning up the mess. It affects your credit score and it can be expensive to fix. Get your credit score annually so that you know if someone has been looking at your information.

Water damage cleanup

We are having a record year here in the northeast. Global warming naysayers, I hope you’re eating crow right about now. We have extreme highs, record lows–and while we’re having record snowfalls & rainfalls and flooding, other areas are having record droughts. So many people have experienced flooding this year, it feels like the states around here are always under a state of emergency. Luckily, while our road and town floods all the time, our house sits high enough that we escape it. We won’t ever have a finished basement though, we get water in it all the time. If you need an ulphostery cleaning service or another service for terrazzo tile cleaning in Austin, check with your insurance company first. Some will pay for the cleaning, some will pay for replacement, but flood coverage is a must. A few decades ago, I think people who thought they were immune to flooding are learning a hard lesson! Good luck.
