After Christmas sales: $159 8GB tablet

Overall, I’m not a huge fan of the cheap-o tablets. Having purchased and returned two of them, because they were junk, I’ve kind of learned that sometimes you get what you pay for. It’s just my personal opinion that there isn’t a decent tablet out there for under $100. This one piques my interest though–here are the features.

  • Equipped with Android 2.3 OS
  • Wi-Fi-ready for web surfing, email and App shopping
  • 7-inch-wide screen with full 1080P HD quality
  • 8GB hard drive and 512MB memory
  • QWERTY on-screen keyboard for easy typing
  • E-books on the go
  • Built-in microphone
  • Dual surround sound speakers
  • Detachable, rotating stand that also serves as a screen protector when collapsed

Now that seems like a decent starter tablet, or one for kids, or someone like me who just wants a few apps on the go.

My boys are really enjoying the Leap Pad. I did have a small case of buyer’s remorse, but it’s gone. They really like it and are playing with it, so I’m glad we got one. However, I am a bit disappointed with the um, lack of stuff it came with. Even with the bundle I got, it’s pretty bare bones–just a few games and stuff.  My younger son was very happy to find Cars on it, but it’s not really a game or anything–it’s just a preview of what Cars stuff you can buy for it (insert huge eye roll here). After I pay $150 for something, it kinda irks me that it comes with commercials installed on it.

Anyway, we’ve registered it on the Leap site and are taking a look around. That link, which is from savings.com, (same as the one if you click the photo) should give you 5%-20% off Leap games & apps, depending on which one. Then, try using the code SOLSTICE to get another 15% off. I haven’t tried to stack the codes yet, so not sure if it will work. Hopefully!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Whatever holiday you’re celebrating, I hope you have a wonderful time. The team here at Smart Spending Spot is also taking some time to spend with our families, so you won’t see many new posts either tomorrow or Sunday. Family time is much more important–how we spend our time is just as important as how we spend our money. Probably later on Christmas day night, I’ll hop on & see what I can find for 12/26–that’s always been one of my most favorite shopping days.

I’m very excited to have you all reading my blog–I love sharing tips and am so glad there are people out there interested in reading them. I think 2012 is going to be a great one–I have some new sponsors and fun giveaways lined up and I hope to help make this a prosperous year for all of us. We already have two very cool giveaways lined up for right after Christmas.

Eat well, sleep well, hug your loved ones and relax!

I’m battling a terrible sinus infection, and yesterday finally went to the doctor. Actually, not the doctor, the CVS Minute Clinic, but I digress. When I got home, there was a plain, brown box sitting by my garage door. The return address was Leap. After all I went through to get the darn thing, this was very anti-climatic. Just a lonely brown box, sitting there. I felt like there should have been a marching band in my driveway to present it to me or something. But it was raining yesterday, maybe that’s why there was no marching band.

Anyway, I purchased mine directly from the Leap website, so those of you that didn’t you may not know this–it requires set up! Gah, yes it does! If you just wrap it as is, and put it under the tree–when they open it, they won’t be able to play with it right away. You have to register it, charge it and so on. And, think about it–if lots of families don’t find this out until Christmas morning, their website may be overwhelmed too. Do yours asap!

Today only–if you set yours up, you’ll get a free app called Alphabet Stew. I guess it’s an incentive to get people to load them up early. I plan on doing ours today, will update this if I find anything cool. Now that I actually have it, it looks fun and I’m excited for my boys to try it out. My buyer’s remorse has dissipated.
