Concord Pet 30th Anniversary Sale, this Saturday

My sweet Mell-O-D, 5/99-6/11

This post is dedicated to my sweet old girl, Mell-O-D. A 12-year-old Swissy is a rare thing and I’m proud that she reached that milestone. But overall she was not in good health, was on a half-dozen medications and declined very quickly over the past 3-4 days. Last night we ended her suffering and I miss her terribly.

She was a therapy dog at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in the PICU, for many years and then later on we joined PAWS for People as a reading companion dog at the Newark (DE) library. Her two little boys loved her so. And since joining our household almost 12 years ago, I can’t even count the number of trips we took together to Concord Pet. Like most dogs, she enjoyed a good car ride to the pet supply store.

This Saturday, they are having their 30th anniversary sale from 9 am to 9 pm. Up to 30% off the entire store. I’m assuming that this sale will be very similar to their Midnight Madness sales, and in the past, those details have been–20-30% off everything in the store, limited to 2 or 3 items per sku, and no mfr coupons. And, like Midnight Madness, I would expect the stores to be packed and you will wait in line for upwards of an hour.

Then again, this is usually the only time that you will find big ticket pet items like beds and crates on sale. I’m going to go. Both trays in both dog crates are cracked so I have to replace them. And while I’m there, might as well pick up some food.

Cheap summer movies & Sensory Friendly Screenings

I’ve been making it my mission in life to see if I can get Cars 2 movie tickets, and possibly some accompanying merchandise, for as cheap as possible or even free. I’ve entered every contest I see. Then, I thought to myself, “Self, you haven’t done your annual post yet on the freebie summer movies for kids.” I started doing internet searches on the free/cheap movies.

Unfortunately, AMC has discontinued their Summer Movie Camp program and will no longer be doing the $1 movies. Website says it’s due to low attendance. They are continuing with their partnership with the Autism Society of America to offer Sensory Friendly Screenings, and have a great assortment of movies.

Regal is still doing it, 10 am on Tuesdays like before. I’m not very eager about any of their selections, but for $1, I’ll probably take them once or twice. At the very least, it will expose them to what it’s like to be in a movie theatre and behave.

Here is the schedule for the Brandywine Town Center theatre. I clicked on a few others & they were all pretty similar, same assortment of movies.

6/14-6/15 (10am)
OPEN SEASON 2

The good news is, however, that Cars 2 is one of the features for the AMC Sensory Friendly Screenings. Here is a list of participating theatres, and it does include Painters Crossing.
