My budget friendly summer adventures-Days 2, 3, 4

For new readers (Welcome from the Daily Local!), I started a series of posts last week about these two weeks. See, my son goes to school year-round, but has off this week and next. I have to keep them busy or it’s just a disaster.

Bumblebees & Sunflower at Coverdale Farm

Yesterday, we visited Coverdale Farm just south of Kennett Square. When I did my recap of the day, I did it from a special needs parenting perspective and that’s why it’s on my other blog. But it is a very budget friendly outing, check it out!

Today, well, not off to a great start. First, it was pouring down rain here this morning, so that caused me to change up plans. We ended up going to Kmart and Once Upon A Child in Pike Creek. Super exciting, huh? Here’s a tip that should be obvious to me, but for some reason it wasn’t–NEVER go shopping with a 2 year old, a 4 year old and a headache. I ended up buying not one, but two pairs of shoes for the boys, in wrong sizes! So now I have to go back which is a waste of time and gas. I did just ok at Once Upon A Child, brought them some things, they turned away more than they took as usual, and I walked out with $30. Then went down to Kmart and spent $28 so that’s basically a wash. Well, except for the fact that I’ll get $18 back for the shoes I have to return. But so far today, we haven’t spent anything really. And I did get lots of the boys fall/Halloween things out of the basement. What OUAC turned down, I just dumped in one of those donation bins.

They’re napping right now, when they wake up we’ll go to the park in West Grove so that they can play on the playground and then we’ll visit the growers market.

Tuesday–Tuesday didn’t cost us anything, we just stayed at home all day. Well, did our weekly grocery trip, saved lots of money with coupons as usual. Got lots of laundry done, but with this rain, I had to break my summer rule of not using the dryer.

Free Sitter City/Nanny City membership

Remember a few weeks ago, when I posted about Kabongo? If you missed the post, it’s a free online reading game thing for kids. It’s free, my kids like computers, so I joined. My kids like the games but we really haven’t used it that much.

Anyway, today I got an email from Kabongo. It’s for a FREE membership to sitter city or nanny city. Woot! That is like $35/month to join! And good sitters are hard to find. They do elder care sitters, pet care, housekeepers and all that stuff too. So join Kabongo, see, if you get the invite.

Adventure Aquarium-$15 tix, this weekend only

This is a hot deal floating all over the web. Go here to purchase tickets for $15. Offer is only good this weekend, but you have a year to use them. I’ve been dying to take the kids here and have never been.

Oh, this is for the Adventure Aquarium on the Camden Riverfront, for non-locals. Now you have a reason to come visit us in Philly!

Save $$ on vacation–get a City Pass

Click image to see NYC offers--5 for $79!

I just learned about City Pass. It’s an online ticketing thing, where you buy passes to city attractions at a discount. This is HUGE savings if you’re going to visit a specific city for vacation. CityPass is a simple way to vacation in North America’s most popular city destinations. Available in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hollywood, Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto. CityPass is a ticket booklet containing an actual admission ticket to the top attractions in each city. With CityPass, you pay one substantially reduced price and avoid main entrance ticket lines at most attractions.

If you live near a big city, it’s a great deal too. I’m thinking of doing the Philadelphia offer. I get the National Constitution Center (which I’ve wanted to visit, but have never been) and 5 other attractions for $59. Some of the offers include the zoo and the Please Touch Museum. You know that’s one of my favorites! My kids love it there. And, keep in mind, when you purchase this–you are purchasing the actual tickets to get in. Not vouchers to get tickets. So you avoid waiting in lines once you get there. That’s huge! I hate trying to entertain my kids while waiting in a line, especially in the heat.

See offers below for Philadelphia, or click the banner to see the other cities. I’m going to email this post to my stepmother, who visits NYC all the time.

Admission Pass to Philadelphia’s “National Constitution Center” & 5 other attractions only $59.00 at CityPass – $110.99 value

Admission Pass to Philadelphia’s “Academy of Natural Sciences” & 5 other attractions only $59.00 at CityPass – $110.99 value
