Some Acme matchups, Jan 21-27

On Monday, I just did a bunch of clipping from all the inserts from 12/26 up to now, so if I’m referring to a coupon, it probably was received in papers during that time frame.

Betty Crocker cookie mix-use the $0.40 coupon and pay $0.20/pouch

Pillsbury-there are $1/2s out there, so pay $0.50/box

Other items-front page-

Some of these items have $1 off 2s out, reducing price by another $0.50, but no freebies that I can see

Don’t feel like cooking? Use the $1 off any Culinary Circle items, from Acme booklet, and pay only 5.99 for a rotisserie chicken.

Snyder’s pretzels on sale for $2, use the $1.50/3

Nature Valley and Fiber One-on sale for $3 each, get a free case of water when you buy 4; always coupons out for these items

Ivory & Softsoap-$1 each, lots of coupons to go with these items

I’ll add more later if I have time.

Yay! My ads came today!

I’m on my way out for a girls’ night out, but later tonight or in the morning, I’ll preview at least the supermarket ads. At first glance, I see some good stuff at Acme and Superfresh. Nothing that’s manic and going to drive us into a frenzy, but good deals. Go to your Genuardi’s and get those booklets!

Bogo Stayfree coupon

Here is a printable for bogo Stayfree. It only let me print one, which is unusual for printables. It also says “Available at Dollar General” but does not say “redeemable only at DG” and it’s a mfr coupon so you should be able to use it anywhere.

Stores that let you use a bogo coupon with a bogo sale:
Acme
Superfresh
Walgreen’s
CVS
Rite Aid

Q&A: product sizes & coupons

I had a reader contact me about a post I made about my trip to Acme. She was asking why I purchased the small container of Teddy Grahams, isn’t that more expensive?

Yes, and no.

If you’re going to actively coupon, you sort of have to throw out all the old thinking about bigger quantities of items being cheaper. And I’ll try to give some examples.

Most of the time, if a coupon says “Take $$ off ANY…….” you want to look for the smallest size product for the best savings. My coupon was for “take $1 off ANY Nabisco cookie” so I chose the smallest one at $1.29.

The regular price for the 10 oz box is $2.79 or $.28 per ounce. The regular price for the little 3 oz container I got is $1.29 or $0.43 an ounce. At full price, no coupons, the little container is much more expensive.

If we add in the $1 coupon-
10 oz box goes to 1.79, or $0.18 per ounce
3 oz cup goes to $0.29 or $0.10 per ounce
It’s almost 50% cheaper, on a per ounce basis, to purchase the small plastic cup this way.

The same goes for dishwashing liquid and the recent Gain deals show this. The bigger bottle was much cheaper on a per ounce basis. But the smaller bottle was free after coupon, and what’s cheaper than free?

If you need a huge quantity of an item, say diapers or baby formula, and you don’t have any coupons to use…..then the warehouse club stores and packaging will probably (but not always, so do the math!) be your best option. But when adding in coupons, it’s usually the reverse that works.

Most cell phones have a calculator option, so don’t hesitate to use it while shopping. After all, if we’re talking 50% or greater savings on some items, that’s significant.
