Rumor Patrol: Genuardi’s/Giant in Kennett Square

Updating the rumors! This is only chatter heard from employees, so I don’t want to claim it as fact. But you know how the Burger King (next to Walgreens) in Kennett has been closed, and the gas station? Supposedly Giant bought that too, and they are converting it to their gas pumps, just like the New Garden location.

Pfft, I hate the gas points program. Gee, you mean I can carry around a smelly gas container in my car so that I can save a total of six bucks? How generous of you. And that’s only after you’ve purchased 17 different items, none of which had good coupon matchups. And lots of times, mine don’t show up on my card and when I scan it, it says “no gas points to redeem” even though I’m positive I have some. Yeah, not looking forward to it being a Giant.

Rumor Patrol: Kennett Giant, Genuardi’s & Delaware News Journal

Some rumors I heard this week:

1. The Genuardi’s in Kennett Square is in fact going to be transformed over to a Giant. They will keep both Kennett Square locations open.

2. The people at Giant have taken over the lease of the old Acme in New Garden, to prevent any other grocers from coming in. One member of the Smart Spending Spot team has seen a bunch of activity at the location, mainly dry wall being hauled in. Guess we’ll have to wait & see what it is.

3. I was informed that in a few weeks, the price of the Sunday News Journal is going up to $3 a week. This particular person (a vendor) was told “They’re going after the Extreme Couponers.” So, it appears that only couponers are buying newspapers anymore, so charge them more?? Yeah, makes a TON of sense–people that want to save money, charge them more. All the more reason to buy the Daily Local instead–both papers carry both SS and Red Plum.

For all of you w/ little ones that may just be starting on jarred food, or will be in the near future: This week at ShopRite, BEECHNUT STAGE 2 BABY FOOD – 12 FOR $3.30 (must buy 12). There is a $1.00/3 printable coupon available (get your friends to print 2 each for you) which means that you basically can get a TON of jarred baby food, for free!

There are coupons on both SmartSource and Coupon Network, and both will let you print 2 per computer.
