possible unadvertised Quaker deal at Acme (Supervalu chain)

The other stores in the Supervalu chain (Albertson’s etc.) have a Quaker catalina deal going on right now. It is:

Catalina deal on Quaker products starting Friday, Jan. 21- Feb. 13:

Buy 2, get $1.00 off your next shopping trip

Buy 4, get $2.00 off your next shopping trip

Buy 5 or more, get $3.00 off your next shopping trip

And, our Acmes are advertising “save an add’l $3 when you buy 5 Quaker products…” And there are several coupons out right now for Quaker, including $1 off 1s. My little guys eat this, so I may try it this week. Those coupons came on a weekend when I didn’t get many inserts, so I’m not going crazy with it.

What year was Acme Markets founded?

And more importantly, why should you care? Today at Acme they were celebrating their 120th anniversary. And over the loudspeaker the CS person said “We’re celebrating our 120th anniversary today, the first person that comes up here and tells me what year Acme was founded wins a $10 gift card.”

I had just entered the store and was in dairy, near the CS desk. Did the math on my cell phone, and won $10.

They did similar questions twice more while I was there, so if you go, be listening. And they had contests for kids and freebie snacks all over the place.

Check the Kraft/Nabisco display, there are coupon booklets attached. And check the Goldfish for peelies.

Only 42% savings on my weekly trip this week–I always aim for 50%. But still under my budget.

smaller package sizes-Yoplait

I’ve blogged before about how annoying it is that manufacturers are shrinking package sizes and hoping we don’t notice. Yesterday I stopped in at Acme to get one more set of Nutri Grain bars (found some coupons!) and noticed this sign on their window-“Yoplait, 4.6 oz-$x.xx” I don’t remember what price they had listed.

Yogurt cups used to be 8 oz. Then they shrunk down to 6oz. Now, 4.6 oz! And the regular shelf price is anywhere from $0.75-$1.05. That’s ridiculous.

Some Acme matchups, Jan 21-27

On Monday, I just did a bunch of clipping from all the inserts from 12/26 up to now, so if I’m referring to a coupon, it probably was received in papers during that time frame.
