Hockessin Liquors-tasting event

I know I plug Hockessin Liquor quite a bit. It’s the closest wine store to my home (lucky me!), no sales tax, they offer great discounts plus they have 15% off coupons on the back of Acme receipts. 15% off is great–and it’s valid even if you only buy one bottle. There’s, uh, ahem, a much larger and much more publicized store just down in DE a bit further in Pike Creek area, but they make you buy an entire case of the exact same item before they give you a discount. That doesn’t work well for me. Hockessin Liquor is also a family-owned small business and you know my penchant for supporting the little guy. My husband went there on Friday to get some things and a salesperson gave him an invitation and told him “here, give this to your wife.” I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not, that I’m known at the local wine store.

And although these features have zero appeal to me, my husband likes that they have a great beer selection and you can buy it one bottle at a time if you prefer. That’s good for him because if he reads about a new micro-brew that he wants to try, he can try just one bottle before investing in more. I don’t drink beer, this is why those features of the store don’t appeal to me.

Anyway, the invitation they gave me is for a tasting event on May 21 from 3-6. Checked the calendar and that’s a Saturday. I put in on my calendar and told Dan he’ll have to watch the boys. Since it’s on 41 and just a stone’s throw away, afterwards I’d like to go to Taqueria Moroleon. They were recently favorably reviewed by Craig Laban which is pretty damn cool. You know you’ve hit the big time when you get that kind of review, and here it is, in little ole’ Avondale.

Anyway, back to the wine tasting. I’m assuming anyone can go, but if you get an invitation, you turn that in in order to be eligible for raffles they are doing. So stop in and ask if you can be entered. I love giveaways, especially wine giveaways! Refreshments are being provided by the Back Burner, another local favorite of mine. If you’ve never hosted a holiday gathering or party and served their Better Cheddar, you are missing out. Seriously. It has become a staple at parties I host. It has a very strong flavor though, not sure what I’d pair it with.

Hope to see some of you there!

Acme Update: P&G and Wisk

First, there is a Wisk catalina printing-$2 when you buy Wisk. Most of it is $8.99, so not a great deal even if you do have the $2 coupons. But, there is clearance Wisk at $5.99 and that is reported to also be generating the catalina. And it does roll. I saw lots of the clearance Wisk at the Avondale Acme. The tag is there, but oddly, it’s hidden behind a bunch of Tide. I gave all of my coupons away so I didn’t get any.

The P&G deal-I can confirm it’s working on shelf prices. I got the dog food, which is $21.99 shelf, $17.99 sale. Plus I have those awesome $8 Iams coupons I found at my vet. But one bag of dog food did generate the catalina. And this time, there’s no mention of it not being used on P&G items, and it did roll on to my next transaction. I got one Bounty, one Cascade, used two $1 coupons plus the catalina, got another one.

And I checked most of the items and nothing appears to be on knockdown which is good. They had these one pages handouts at the register. I wrote the shelf prices on mine and scanned it in. Hope you can enlarge it & print it.

Acme (Supervalu) ad, 4/29-5/5; highlights, matchups, P&G offer

Offer is spend $20, get a $5 catalina AND 5 Redbox codes! Remember, Acme deals will work on SHELF or KNOCKDOWN prices. Then you pay the sale/knockdown price minus any coupons and will still qualify. Everyone do a rain dance for NO KNOCKDOWN prices! If you don’t have any Acme, check your local Supervalu store (Cub, Osco, Albertson’s) because they may be doing the same thing.

I’ve listed the shelf prices if I know them. I love P&G items so I usually have my favorite products memorized! And don’t forget your Avenu. I have $1.50 off swiffer that is good until 5/2 and $0.70 off Pampers wipes.

**Check your vet’s office. I was there yesterday & they had put out more of the Iams $8 cat and dog food coupons. Mine was all cat coupons, one dog coupon, so that’s all I took this time.

Last P&G inserts were 4/3, they expire Saturday. New ones Sunday. PREVIEW

Hopefully you all have a bunch of home mailers to go with this promo too. You have to sign up when I post those links! The values of those are usually higher than what’s in the paper. With the $3 Tide coupon coming this Sunday, I see lots of possibilities if it’s not on knockdown. I need Bounty and Cascade, so that’s what I’m going to focus on. I’ll post what I get when I get it. But if you have anything to add, as far as possible transactions or more shelf prices, please leave a comment.

Other offers:

GM products are 2 for $5, free milk wyb 5. Includes most cereals (ad doesn’t list specifics), NV granola bars, Toaster strudel, & Yoplait multipacks, BC fruit snacks. Yay! Boys are eating Yoplait this week. Printables, printables, printables, printables. If the cinnamon burst cheerios are included and you have the 0.75/1 coupons, 5 boxes of cereal plus a gallon of milk will be $5.

Sweet baby Ray’s is $1 this week. Hopefully some of you get the $1 off one coupons, lately mine have all been $1 off 2.

Broccoli-0.99

Strawberries-bogo at 4.99

Hatfield stuff on sale, printables

Lots of Mexican items on sale because of Cinco de Mayo, so check your coupon binders for Old El Paso, Ortega, Pace, Rosarita and Mission coupons. Produce related to this is on sale as well-avocados, tomatoes, onions–and cheddar and ground beef. The Nature Sweet are 2 for 5 and there are $1 off 2s out. We like those.

Apple & Eve is 2 for 5, printables or look in your 3/6 inserts

Overall a decent week. I don’t see any freebies from the P&G offer, but I think we can all get what we need for very cheap as long as the stuff isn’t on knockdown.

New Giant ad-May 1 to 8; P&G deal update

Looking at the new Giant ad. It has a little pull-out insert with the $25/$100 P&G deal. At first glance, it looks like most of the prices are the same as this week. And I don’t see any mention of a possible $5/$20 catalina offer from Pampers. Nor do I see the big box of Pampers that they have advertised this week, with the free tub of wipes when you buy the big box.

My hope, of course, was that I’d buy five big boxes of Pampers in separate transactions. Pay $19.99 for them, get my free wipes and use whatever Pampers coupons I have. I think I have $2 ones right now. See if one box and one tub of wipes is enough to generate $5 catalina, and see what my spending amount is listed as on my receipt. Hopefully get a $5 catalina to roll on the next box of diapers and so on. When I got to $100, hopefully only five transactions (99.95-I was counting on the value of the wipes to push me over).  I would have spent: 17.99+12.99+12.99+12.99+12.99=69.95, I’d still have a $5 catalina. Go home, submit $25 rebate. $44.95 final cost for five big boxes of diapers, five tubs of wipes, one $5 catalina.

But since I don’t see this anywhere in the ad, and only read about it on discussion forums, I’m going to wait & see what happens. Hopefully some shopper will be the guinea pig and go out and try it on Sunday or Monday. Since Giant deals only work on sale prices, I don’t see how we can make anything even close to free.

There’s another P&G deal at Acme next week, so I’d rather just try for that one instead.
