Husbands will only eat so much Chex Mix…..

Sometimes when getting free stuff, or getting paid by the store to take the stuff, I get carried away. Like Chex Mix. We like Chex Mix and eat it, even more enjoyable when it’s free. But at a certain point, enough is enough.

DONATE!

Food banks are really hurting right now. With the economy the way it is, demand is high and donations are low. Maybe you got too much free something. Maybe you used a freebie offer to try something new and you don’t like it. Whatever the reason, please take a few minutes out of your day and drop it off at the food bank. I go to the one in Kennett, directions and hours are here. It’s down by the high school and sits back from the road in a very non-descript building.

Have extra toothpaste? If you’ve been doing this even for a few weeks, chances are you have too much toothpaste. A few places I donate my health/beauty items:
Churches and VFWs/American Legions often send packages to troops.
Planned Parenthood or local WIC office
Ask your hairdresser if their salon participates in helping domestic violence shelters–many do. Most domestic violence shelters do not publish their addresses for security reasons.
Ask your school nurse or school counselor if they have a family in need–you’d be surprised how many needy people are right in your neighborhood.

Whatever you do–don’t throw it away. Getting free stuff is fun, but giving to those who need it is even more satisfying.

Another note about Ebates

Something I forgot to mention in yesterday’s post about Ebates-double dipping! With Ebates, you can also use any other coupons or discount codes that you may have. If you’re looking for online shopping codes, try retailmenot. By using codes for free shipping and discounts, plus getting your Ebates money back, it makes for some great deals.

Ebates

Do you know about Ebates? Do you shop online? Then you should know about Ebates!

Ebates is a rebate program for online shopping. Here’s how it works. You shop at online retailers that you would normally shop with, and you get a rebate check sent to you in the mail. It’s that simple. What’s the catch? Ok, there is one small catch–one thing that I always forget to do.

If you want to use Ebates, you have to enter the retailer’s site through the Ebates site. I always forget to do this and it’s frustrating. For instance, the other day we placed an order with kodakgallery. Since my husband did remember to use Ebates, we will get 10% back on our purchase–but he had to remember to go to Ebates first, then click on the kodakgallery link in Ebates. I, on the other hand, always forget, and just go right to kodakgallery–which means we don’t get anything back.

They have a huge list of participating stores. And holiday shopping season is coming up, so no better time to get started. I loathe the malls at Christmas time.

Shameless plug portion of post: Register for Ebates here and we’ll both get $5 credited to our accounts when you sign up and use it for the first time. There’s no fee for joining, all you do is register, make sure you shop from within the site, and then just wait for your check to arrive in the mail. Seriously–it’s that easy. If that link doesn’t give you a direct referral, where it asks if you were referred by anyone, you can put lightners at comcast dot net. (Put the email address, I’m spelling it out to avoid spammers)

Once you’ve created your free account, you can then send out referrals to your friends and family.
